Only 2 pounds this month

Recommended Posts

Oh woe is me. I had my surgery on December 14th and quickly lost 46 pounds. Since the end of January I have only lost 2 pounds. What the heck is going on. I feel so bad because I read all the posts how everyone is losing and losing and I fear this is the end for me. I have never been a good loser when it comes to dieting, but I thought this was going to be different? I know that the VGS is not a cure but a tool. I am getting my protien in and my Water and excersize. Is this the end for me? I am so discouraged and don't even want to keep doing my walking and keeping my food journal, but I know I have to. I keep thinking this bubble is going to burst and I will start losing again. I just don't know what to do, I feel duped.

I had my VSG 12-9-10 and have lost about 35 pounds which I think is good due to the fact of my older 56 yr old metabolism and all the yo-yoing I have did in the past 3 years. Your body is probably trying to catch up so keep doing what you're doing! Think positive!

Hello Middlesister,

No, definitely not - this is not the end of losing for you. Have you tried keeping a food journal, and are you logging every bitsy morsel that you're consuming? This even includes your liquids too...

Have you begun to start a little bit of an exercise routing? If not, even starting walking will help to burn a few more calories per day that you otherwise wouldn't.

If you're really being diligent with all of that, then look at how many calories you're getting in per day. Maybe you need to bump up your Protein Grams and Water intake. I drink up to 100 fl oz per day! Also, have you thought about fluctuating your caloric intake? Such as doing a few hundred more for a few days then going back down? Our bodies do get VERY used to eating the same amount every day. In fact, I do my best to never eat the same amount daily.

These are just a few basic suggestions, not sure if you're already following these or not. At this point, I'd try shaking up your routine, from A to Z.

Good luck and let us know how you do!! :)

I know that it is frustrating! But hold on. If you are doing what your doctor told you to do then you will be successful. I have heard of so many that loose in a stair step way. They loose then stall...loose, then stall...and it just repeats. I think you just need to hang in there and wait it out...By the way do you take measurements? Any changes in those during the last few weeks? When you get discouraged maybe you can look at old photos and see how far you have already come....We are always here for you:-)

Hey,

I agree with the others, don't worry! I am in the exact same position, only I am nearly 8mths out! I have a small phase of losing between 5-7lb then nothing for 1-3 weeks... it is a proper pain in the backside, but and it is a big but, I know that the scale will move again albeit eventually.

At the beginning of this I really hoped by now, I would have lost a lot more! However, the dream ended and reality kicked in and I am slowly losing,,, but I am still losing!

Your scales will move again, your time hasn't come to an end... be kind to yourself, follow your guidelines and you will see results.

Keep us posted and good luck. Chin up! =]

I feel the exact same way. I feel like everyone else is losing alot faster than me. But I am 58 so I guess that is one of the reasons. So just hang in there.

I would follow all of this advice and not be discouraged. It is generally harder to lose as we age (I am 57), and after yoyo dieting. The idea of varying the calories is spot on. I have lost more on diets when I went from extra low calorie days to higher ones, (like going to a party or out to eat and not watching it as carefully). The variation keeps the body not used to living on lower calories all the time, which can slow down the metabolism. Not pigging out on unhealthy food, but stepping calories up and down a bit. And, exercise, Water, and Protein (not at all fun, huh?) can all help. I have always been a big plateauer, so, be patient and don't give up! Congratulations--46 pounds is a lot of unhealthy fat to leave behind.

I lost 3 lbs. last month, so I know how you feel. I try not to be discouraged about it because the good news is that I have not gained any weight back.

Don't give up. Keep going and you will start to lose again :)

Im right there with ya! I really thought the weight loss was going to be more and here i am at 12 weeks and just 33 pounds. The scale has been a cruel mistress this last month going up 4 pounds and taking a month to go back down 5 pounds. I keep following the guide lines, but that voice in the back of my head keeps saying is this it??? You had surgery for this?

I'm so glad that I finally wrote about my stall. I am doing all the right things, walking 25-35 minutes per day, logging my food intake, drinking my Water, getting in my protien, taking my Vitamins, everything that I am supposed to do. I will try to increase my calories, maybe that will do it. I am 54 and I guess some of you are right about being older and having it be harder to lose.

Thank You - everyone who took the time to write and make me feel better. I really appreciate it.

THANK YOU ALL

Lisa

I know how you feel. I dropped about 20+ pounds that first week and then when I switched to full liquids (lots of mashed potatoes), I put on 5 lbs in the next week or so despite walking 15 min a day and drinking decent amounts of fluids. It upset me, but I have to learn it's a long-term process. My nutritionist thinks it was too many carbs. Gotta keep plugging away. Walking, drinking, small portions! :) Hang in there!

I am in the same boat right now. I have been in a stall for a few weeks. I was averaging around 600-700 calories/protein 60-80/and fluids. I finally was able to eat enough to hit 800 calories for 3 days and dropped my carbs back down to around 30 grams. I finally lost a 1 pound today. I like the advice of keeping the calories varied day to day. Hang in there!

I am no exercise specialist, but I think upping your exercise to at least 40 minutes is a good idea. I am not sure how intense your workout is, but make sure you actually break out a GOOD sweat. I don't think 15 minutes or below is workout - I was told to start with 15 minutes the weeks after surgery but soon try to work out to 30-40 minutes for 6 days a week.

If you use a calculator online and calculate the burnt calories, please note that in most cases those are made for people in a more normal weight range for a much much lower bodyfat %. From what I read, they basically extrapolate fat and muscle according to weight which grossly overestimates your burnt calorie amount. So, if you are trying to eat back burnt calories, you can be seriously in trouble and eat way too much.

Also, make sure you eat enough fat. I know, we have all been fat-phobic but you need fat to keep your body burning

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
