Sleeved at last !!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi there to all my sleeve brothers and sisters.

After getting cancelled back in December I am now very pleased to tell you I have my sleeve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My op was last Tuesday, Feb 1st and I came home on Friday evening. Like Viv I am also in the UK and had my op on the NHS. Although I have no co-morbidities, my surgeon insists on your staying in the hospital for a few days.

Everything went just fine. I’ve had no pain at all, just a bit of discomfort from the drain until they took it out and of course some gas pain.

It is so good to be home, you can’t beat sleeping in your own bed can you ?

I’m doing great, so far, with the drinking and Clear liquids. I could, perhaps take in a little more Water and I’m working on that.

I haven’t weighed myself since the op, I’m going to leave it for another week if I can.

I have my op recorded on dvd and watched it yesterday. It isn’t like watching yourself so it doesn’t make you feel weird. Its fascinating to watch, I think it will keep me on the straight and narrow if I go through any sticky Patches in the future.

I can’t wait to start living my new life properly.

I want to say a huge thank you to all of you for your kind thoughts and support throughout this whole journey.

I’ll keep in touch to pick your brains for post op tips and advice.

Take care everyone

I have read a lot of the stories on here and I am so glad to see another story where you did not have horrendous pain after surgery! I am very scared of the pain afterward b/c I am a big baby when it comes to pain. I hope I am as lucky as you to only have some gas pain and soreness. I hope to have surgery March 15th...but currently waiting on an answer from United. Great job on being on the other side and on your journey to the rest of your healthy life!

Hiya, yes I was sleeved on Feb 1st so we are sleeve twins !!!!!

How are you doing a week out ?

I'm still doing great, maybe could still get a little more Water down but I'm not pushing it too much, don't want to hurt my tiny new precious tummy !! LOL

I was going to go out for a walk today but the weather has been really awful. It was really windy and raining all day. Tomorrow looks like a better day to try it so I'll be putting my best foot forward !!

I've decided that, like our Queen, I'm now going to have 2 birthdates. My real one in November and my new one Feb 1st each year, a good idea don't you think. It is,afterall, the day we were re-born into a new life.

Let me know how everything is going won't you ? I hope you are feeling as good as I am.

Take care

Hi there Lily and thank you for your kind thoughts.

Not long to go for you now, are you all prepared ?

I'm sure you'll be just fine and that everything will go smoothly.

I have felt so well that I really can't believe that I've had such a major procedure. I hope you feel just the same post op.

Sending you hugs and all good wishes from the UK. Can't wait to hear how it all goes.

'Anxiously Waiting Approval'

I have read a lot of the stories on here and I am so glad to see another story where you did not have horrendous pain after surgery! Hi there and thank you so much for your message.

I don't think that anyone has ever been as surprised as me to have had virtually no post op pain !!!! I was expecting to have the " OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE TO MYSELF " feelings for days.

The gas pain wasn't that bad at all and I can honestly say that once my drain was out I was fine. The drain isn't really a pain, its more of a discomfort and not that bad. I'm no different to you, I can be a big baby as well when I want to LOL !!!

I would just say go in with a positve attitude, try not to be too nervous and everything should be just fine. I didn't have any pre-op meds to relax me. I had resolved in my own mind that I was doing the right thing for me and was so chilled out about the whole thing, everyone was amazed. I think that positive attitude went a long way towards my recovery.

Good luck for getting your approval, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Keep in touch and let me know how it goes won't you.

I am pushing round 55 to 60 ounches Water daily. and also pushing 60 grams of Protein daily. I am really doning well as far as pain. I started out at around 32 ouches of water and increased it by 5 ounches a day until I got to 60 ounces. when I got to 60 ounces of water started on Protein Shakes and now getting 60 and 60.. I am soo glad that they finally got you in girl. I was hoping they didn't prolong you much more. I do admit the first 3 or 4 days were bad on me but I cant complain. I hope ya doing well and I keep ya posted..Good luck Angela

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
