African American Sleevers

  • Popular Post

Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

Hi everyone! I'm new posting here. I'm 2 days post op and trying my hardest to get thru right now. I'm barely getting my protein in or water. Any suggestions?

You're not going to get much protein in this early, just focus on staying hydrated. Try to get in as much liquid as possible for now. With time you'll start to get more protein in. Congrats on your journey.

@@aloudwhisper, I didn't realize you are from Maryland as well. Did you have your surgery at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore? They have a great support group on Monday and every other Monday.

I moved to Birmingham, Alabama 2 years ago. I had my band at Washington hospital, but I converted here. I am not cleared to work out yet. I have been trying to really take it easy since I went back to work 5 days out. I am on soft foods. I am trying to get use to the sleeve and not stuff my sleeve. It's so crazy, small things like eating eggs is not a struggle. 1 egg, can sometimes be a lot for my small pouch, so I am learning my tolerance. I want to begin working out. I'm going to a conference this weekend, so i will be doing a lot of walking. I am ready to take this thing to the next level.

Welcome to the other side. I am 13 days out. I was just encouraged to keep sipping. It's hard. So popsicles and jello helps. I also enjoyed hot broth. I would drink it out of my portable coffee mug. It only allows sips at a time. That make it much easier for me. You want to find protein that really works for you also.

Ok, well I missed it. I guess people are just make a commitment to walk a certain amount of miles per week?
