    African American Sleevers

I was told from my doctor that revision sleevers lose slower but not less than virgin sleevers...trust me I understand I didn't even tell anyone because I was so afraid I wouldn't lose any weight...

    African American Sleevers

I understand I am a revised sleeve from the lap band that was a failure so I live in fear that this is not going to work either...I'm trying not to stay on the scale I'm five months out and thought I would have lost a lot more, I'm not complaining cause I know its going to come off eventually so stay encouraged.

I know you don't want to hear this but you know with your weight being what it is you are going to lose at a slower pace I was comparing myself to my friend she has lost 40 more lbs than me and we were sleeved a week apart but her starting weight was about 70lbs more than me...so don't be discouraged you will get there we all will...

I haven't heard this but would like to know if it's true I'm 5'0 so I'm in your boat...I know it doesn't help when you want to see the scale moving but you are losing inches so the pounds will come off...I thought I would be smaller than I am but I know without it I would be a mess. So stay encouraged!

You're not going to get much protein in this early, just focus on staying hydrated. Try to get in as much liquid as possible for now. With time you'll start to get more protein in. Congrats on your journey.

    African American Sleevers

May 20th was surgery date. I had the band removed the same procedure. I was told we revisioners would lose a slower rate than the virgin sleevers. So far I'm happy with the results. I try not to get on the scale maybe once every two to three weeks. Its so much better being able to eat food without it getting stuck, just eating a very smaller portion. This is what I wanted for the band. What protective styles are you using. I made my appt for the Senegalese twist, just a little worried it may be too much of a pull on my roots. I was told if you lose hair it would be around month 3 so far so good for me. Again my nails are horrible. Much success to you.

    African American Sleevers

I think the people that are posting now are doing the challenge but back posts talked a lot about this journey and the specifics with being Black on this journey. But to get back on track. I'm officially four months out. I have not lost hair thank you Lord(still crossing my fingers). I decided not to get a relaxer after I had surgery because I was so worried about hair loss. My hair is thick and this new growth is still coming in thick. I really want to get my Senegalese Twist but I'm still nervous so will probably wait another month. The last two weeks haven't been taking my vitamins like I should. I notice my nails are growing but they are weak will break easy. I don't get on the scale on a regular but last I checked I was 40lbs down which is great for me because I am a revised band to sleeve. I was able to buy regular jeans from Old Navy which is a first because they would never go over the hips and booty so small victory. All in all very happy with my results thus far.

    African American Sleevers

What I know so far...I am about 8 weeks post op what I know today is that it seems like I can eat less than I could a couple of weeks ago and I am not complaining...sugar is not good with me, which is also good, I feel sick and lightheaded...getting all my recommended protein is manageable as long as I drink a protein shake in the morning...coffee has been my friend for constipation(TMI I know) but I only drink a cup a day and its the half decaf...I am a revised sleeve so I know my weight loss will be slower than virgin sleevers is what my surgeon told me so I have stayed off the scale, did get on the scale a couple of days ago and I had a five pound weight loss (I only know because I saw my doctor last week...I go by my clothes and am so pleased that I am fitting back into all my old clothes that had become too tight, even had a belt with my size 14 capris!! I am satisfied with the sleeve I wish I had it four years ago instead of the band. I don't let two days in row pass without going to the gym or to the park to walk...my goal jogging for a mile...lastly one more bite of something can make a huge difference, I learned the hard way and had to vomit, was very disappointed in myself because I dealt with the vomiting so much with the band...I am learning my new stomach I now know to stop even before the full feeling...best wishes and keep going to all sleevers!!

    No Scale Here

I revised to the sleeve from the band on 5/20/14. The only time that I get on the scale is for my follow up appointments. I'm wearing pants and shirts that were too tight to wear a month ago so this is what I focus on. Its very hard especially with the fear of this procedure not working since I had such a bad experience with the lap band. But when I am able to put on clothes with ease that had been hanging in my closest, I feel great.

Trina the first week your not going to be able to get enough protein my dietician said to focus on staying hydrated...it will be better next week...
  14. Best wishes to you I was revised from band to sleeve on May 20th. You will be fine.

Are you on solid food yet, my dietician said once solid food is primary nutrition is when you will satisfied and fuller longer. My friend who is 7 months post op has lost 90 lbs and said she felt more restriction starting in month 3 than she did in the beginning, so everyone is different. Are you getting enough protein, some people say they feel no hunger this is not true for me, when I started back to the gym like week 3 and was doing 60minutes of cardio, I felt physical hunger not head hunger because I do recognize the difference. I wish I was one of the individuals who never feel hunger. I'm still new officially four weeks today. Stay encouraged, get your protein in. I also here the stomach is still numb during this stage so you may not feel when you are physically full. You will be fine.

    African American Sleevers

I have enjoyed reading all of the posts to this thread. I am a northern California AA woman who was sleeved on May 12. My surgery went well and there were no complications, except that H pylori was discovered during the surgery. (It didn't show up in the pre-op endoscopy.) I started my weight-loss journey back in January and lost 42 pounds before the surgery. Since the surgery, I have only lost 8 pounds. I believe this is because I have so much difficulty drinking the protein shakes and water that I'm supposed to. In the beginning, this was because of the nausea, that was exacerbated by the antibiotics that I was prescribed. And now, I just feel so darn full so fast. But I believe this will get better as well. My surgeon recommends a four week full liquid diet. I have noticed from lurking here that many people have the full liquids for only two weeks. I guess that's a question I should've asked pre-op, Lol. I'm realizing and I am still new that each surgeon with vsg has their own guideline. My first week was clear liquid, second week full liquid, three week soft food, haven't made it four week think its soft solid. I didn't go home with a drain some do, each practice team seems to have some minor differences. Best of luck to you.

    African American Sleevers

I haven't been hungry since the 1st week of my official 2 week preop diet (I had to diet longer because my BMI was so high). Postop, my stomach has never growled or signaled physical hunger. And you here people mention head hunger and honestly I'm not sure exactly what that hunger is or what that means. I just get a feeling when I need to eat if I get busy and go too long without eating something. Im 8 months post, and nothing's changed in that aspect since I got my sleeve. I know when I'm starting to get full because I start to salivate more. I have way more oral secretions now and I have to spit it out because I don't want to swallow it and fill my tiny tummy with it. I hate it- not lady like There are so many changes postop that I'm sure your scenario will be different and you will figure it out as you get to know your sleeve. Thanks so much I know this week I went back to work and started Zumba again so burning a lot of calories...the feeling wasn't strong like preop but my stomach was growling or maybe since its still so new I took it for growling. Just a lot of fear as I revised from the band that was unsuccessful so nervous about this journey. Thanks for your input.

Divadee35 find some form of moving that you actually like. I have always worked out but the eating was horrible. I love Zumba, my gym has free classes. I also rollerskate, they have the music blasting and its fun. Do something that doesn't feel like exercise and you will stick to it. Nothing beats walking...PS I met my husband at the gym...try it one day you may like it.

    African American Sleevers

Hi all I am officially three weeks out and today I felt physical hunger for the first time and its scary because I have read that people with the sleeve never feel physical hunger. So I am nervous about my success already. Can anybody chime in, did your hunger come back, is this normal, I actually left my dietician a message today!!!
  21. Congratulations to both of you...I am now three weeks post op tomorrow. I was imaging the worse but it was not as bad. Just keep thinking about your goal.
  22. I was banded in 2010 and revised to sleeve on May 20th. You did really well with the band the most I lost in a three year period was about 50lbs. I was constantly throwing up, getting Fluid taken out and back in. My band slipped and had to come out. With saying all that, my sleeve is so new so I can't tell I do know a BIG difference is the hunger is not there like with the band. I was around bbq on Memorial Day still on liquid diet, no desire to eat at all. You are already at a weight that would be some people's goal weight. This is a permanent choice so just make sure you really need it. Maybe some people who have been sleeved longer and revised from the band can chime in. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for the info Forsythia, I'm still in the full liquid phase so can't wait to be able to eat real protein again other than the liquid shakes. I came home from the hospital on Thursday and by Saturday I was getting about 45g of protein in. Since I have been on full liquid I know its about 65g of protein. I love water but have been having trouble getting enough water in. Congrats on your success so far.
