African American Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this group, so please excuse me if my question is dumb. Care you all tracking miles per day in the treadmill? I'm not getting the concept. Is this a running group? Cause all it says is African American

Welcome to the group. No its not a runners only group. That's just something a few ladies are doing. I'm only a month out and no way can I do all that running just yet.

So what makes this group different for African Americans? Are we discussing hair, skins and this related to our lifestyles?

I think the people that are posting now are doing the challenge but back posts talked a lot about this journey and the specifics with being Black on this journey. But to get back on track. I'm officially four months out. I have not lost hair thank you Lord(still crossing my fingers). I decided not to get a relaxer after I had surgery because I was so worried about Hair loss. My hair is thick and this new growth is still coming in thick. I really want to get my Senegalese Twist but I'm still nervous so will probably wait another month. The last two weeks haven't been taking my Vitamins like I should. I notice my nails are growing but they are weak will break easy. I don't get on the scale on a regular but last I checked I was 40lbs down which is great for me because I am a revised band to sleeve. I was able to buy regular jeans from Old Navy which is a first because they would never go over the hips and booty so small victory. All in all very happy with my results thus far.

Oh that's wonderful! When did you have your surgery? I am 2 days post op. I am doing pretty good with my Protein. I got down about 60 grams. I wish I could get in more, but I am grateful for where I am. I am excited to see the kinds of foods that I will be able to tolerate. I converted from band to sleeve, so I am on a whole new journey. I have my hair in a protective styles right now, so that I don't have to mess a lot with it. I have just begun taking my Vitamins. I thought I was initially gonna wait, but I have decided against that. I hoping to keep my hair and have long nails. Staying positive. Also thanks for explaining this group to me.

Hi I'm six weeks out sleeved August 18th and I was worried about my hair along with everything else because my hair was already thin. But the worries is gone because with all the Vitamins I'm taking now which I never took before I'm actually seeing new growth and my nails are starting to look healthy. I've had always worn nail tip but now I don't have to. I love my new found health even though the wl is slow since surgery. Sw 278 cw 249. Good luck

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I am trying to get into taking my vitimans. I was a bit worried, especially since I am not able eating as much. I'm hoping that I can get my hair to grow and lessen all the shedding that I had going on prior to surgery. Most was from stressing I know. But I know have a protective style and I am giving my hair the oil and Water it needs.

May 20th was surgery date. I had the band removed the same procedure. I was told we revisioners would lose a slower rate than the virgin sleevers. So far I'm happy with the results. I try not to get on the scale maybe once every two to three weeks. Its so much better being able to eat food without it getting stuck, just eating a very smaller portion. This is what I wanted for the band. What protective styles are you using. I made my appt for the Senegalese twist, just a little worried it may be too much of a pull on my roots. I was told if you lose hair it would be around month 3 so far so good for me. Again my nails are horrible. Much success to you.

Thanks @@itsreallyK I try not to focus on statistics. I have a God that sits high and looks down on me. He knows how much I have prayed for this. He knows that I trust Him and Him only. I can do this. You can do this. No matter what they say. We don't have to be slow looser if we don't want to be. My plan is to keep the carbs low. I won't say that I'm keeping them out of my life, but I want fruits, veggies and Protein first. I will do all I can to focus on myself. Get counseling if I need to. Emotional eating was one of my struggle, and if I don't watch it, it will come back.

As for protective styles I am trying crotchet, phone tails and other hair additional ideas. I wanted braids, but I don't want a lot of pressure on my hair. Get on YouTube and come up with some ideas. I am also including Biotin. So I hope this helps a lot.

Good morning all and Happy Friday,

I know over the week I have read comments about some being disappointed about the challenge that's been going on in the African American SUPPORT group. I just want to say it is somewhat dis-hearting to me that we don't support each other through this process. I think at times individuals get lost in what they want and not what others may need or want. Since, I've actively been coming to this group I've never seen in-depth conversation about what each of us have experienced. Since, I have come to this group I have not seen continuous communication in this group. Since the challenge if not just for one day we all were coming back to support each other by just a simple update and post. I think its unfortunate some people don't realize that the support they may need may not be the type of support others may need. For example with me I track everything, I follow the doctors’ orders, I work the program and I workout continuously but sometimes I get discourage because the scale is not moving. The challenge was holding me accountable.... reminding daily that I need to get my Protein in, I need to get my Water in, I need to work out and not miss sessions with my trainer because I had to report in to those involved in the challenge. I just think it is unfortunate individuals would rather complain verses finding it in themselves to support those that decided (not saying you had to participate) to participate in the challenge but at the same time pose questions and concerns they are going through.

When I start something I like to finish. I started participating in this challenge on this forum and the last day is Oct. 30th and I plan to finish what I started regardless if some are upset about it. I support each and every person on this forum because I personally know the difficulties of weight loss with the surgery, without the surgery and staying consisted and motivated to workout regularly (which are the key elements to your weight loss journey when having bariatic).

it sad because I like this group but I'm rethinking continuing to come to this group after I finish the challenge.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
