I think I may have hurt myself

Recommended Posts

My 2 year old was sleep walking last night. She was standing in the middle of the family room and started screaming. I was half asleep and picked her up without thinking. As soon as I did it, I had a sharp pain in 2 of my incisions. I had to take pain meds for it. They have been sore all day. I was feeling them a little while ago and I have a hard knot under both of them. The other 2 incisions are fine. I am hoping that it is just scar tissue. Has anyone else had this happen?

I'm not sure if you could have hurt yourself but I would definately call the doctor especially if they don't stop hurting you. . . or go to the hospital if the pain gets worse.

oh no Lisabug! I am so afraid of picking up my kids. Have you ever noticed these knots before? I pray everything is ok. Let us know what happens.

No I just noticed them today. The one by my belly button is pretty large. I think I will be staying in bed tomorrow and call my surgeon Monday morning. I know there is a risk of herniated incisions. Hopefully I am being paranoid. I just know it hurt like crazy when I did it.

I am sorry you are going through this! I pulled an internal stitch by doing too much 1 1/2 weeks out. It has bothered me ever since! It is finally feeling much better...thank goodness! (unless I scrub the floor on hands and knees...bad me!)

Take it easy and I would call your dr. on Monday about the knots. AND No more lifting the little one! I know it is tough...I have a 3 yr old (+5 more) and I have had c-sections.

Hang in there!

I have the knots under my incision, so did my hubby after gallbladder surgery. So I think the knots are normal. I would still call the surgeon on Monday. If the pain gets worse or you start running a fever you might want to go to the ER.

Oh no, Lisabug, I am so sorry for your injury. It is so hard to NOT pick up your crying child, or perform other normal activities, like today I lifed a big basket of sewing projects.

I hope your day of bedrest helped, it sounds like maybe you pulled a couple of recently healed stitches. Good idea to call the surgeon in the morning.... good luck to you!

I didn't have anything that specific. But I did have a lot of roving pains after surgery. One day I would sleep on something and it would hurt, then next day it wasn't that but something else that would hurt. But most of it was left of my belly button. It all went away.

I hope you just over did it and it will be okay. I think we are all guilty of too much to soon w little ones in tow.

So the dr said that I did over do it. One of those things that he is going to keep an eye on. If I have severe pain then I have to call him immediately. The concern is that it is an area that can easily become a hernia. I'm off work till Dec 27 except short term disability is trying to make me go back on light duty. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the support

You lucky dog! I only got to take 10 days off, and had o take 2 of them without pay, as I couldn't deal with all the Short Term Disability papework, plus I told my boss I had a hernia to be fixed... they frown on taking time off for "cosmetic" type surgery. I wasn t sure... since this was insurance approved because it is medically necessary, if that means it is "cosmetic" type surgery or not. I would LOVE to be off, it is so cold here.

Anyway, Lisabug, I am glad that you are not bad hurt. I almost fell on my butt on the ice tonight, and thought of you. Take care... did the doc say warm heat or ice packs or anything on the area?

VSG on 11/29 and had something similar happen to me yesterday. Except it was more a sore feeling all across. Then where my drain was put, I had a sharp pain there yesterday. It was so bad it brought me to tears. Quite a few of my incisions prior are sort of lumpy. I ended up taking my pain medication as well. I called today and they said I have probably been over doing it cuz I have been feeling better. I asked them if I can start using Ibuprofen now ( thins your blood) because I feel it has always worked better for me. Been better but now it's bothering me again.....and I'm nervous about taking Ibuprofen when really I shouldn't be. They said I am far enough out now that Ibuprofen is fine.

Feel better soon! I am always so amazed at how many things there are to look out for! My surgery isn't until January and I worry but I think with everyone's experiences and advice I may be able to avoid some of the same problems. Hope you didn't hurt yourself too bad. Take care.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
