I was banded last Tuesday and I'm back to work tomorrow. It helped to have assistance with the kids though. You mostly are tired and a little sore aftwards. I'll be ready to drive tomorrow. Just a littled tired still.

Suggestion (to all future responders to this thread):

It might be a good idea to say something like, "I was back to work as a cashier who sits down at my register after 4 days" or "I was able to go back to work after a week because as a sales associate, I have to be on my feet all day" or even, "It was two weeks before I could go back to work, because as a sales associate, I am required to climb ladders to bring items weighing up to 20 pounds down from the upper shelves".

Then, prospective Lap-Band recipients would have a better idea what they will face after their surgery. It has taken me almost 4 years (and counting) before returning to work (because I am retired).:)

I was banded on Friday, & went back to work the following Monday (11 days). It really was more than I needed. I am a hair stylist so I was affraid to push myself to soon, but I was ready to go back after a week & driving on the 5th day. I had my gallbladder removed & a hernia repaired this past Thursday & I will be returning to work on Wednesday. This is day 5 & I feel great. With both proceedures I was off the pain meds after day 2.

Good luck to you, it will be a breeze. You will be sore, so be good to yourself & only do what you feel comfortable doing. You are the only one that really knows.

I had mine put in on a Friday and went back to work on Tuesday keeping three children plus my own. DH was around to help me though thank goodness. I would say to allow a week or so if you can.

My answer is NEVER to returning to work. I spent 38 years as a nurse so I've served my time. I've raised 5 girls and managed to go through 2 husbands. I've sworn off both (the children not even being an option:)

I love retirement, except that's when things start to need to be patched up. Here I am needing knee surgery, and some surgery on my carotid arteries, before I can get the banding. 5 years ago it was 5-way-bypass and my gallbladder, OH and a broken foot, but those are just the little things that happen when you get old. My spirit is young and so I shall continue on my Quest. Each and every day I wake up I thank God (even with the aches and pains) for being here and having another day with the children and grandchildren. There is not much golden about the golden years when you have health problems, but not working is sure a nice thing.

I imagine the younger people spring back much faster and go back to work faster than us old folks do anyway. They seem to do great, but I know quite a few oldies but goodies that are doing terrific with the band.

If I could change anything about my life I might just change my weight without needing surgery (not going to happen) and some of the rheumatism, but aside from that I'm still here and kicking and consider myself one of the lucky ones.

God Bless,

Dody

(It would be a good idea to state what type of work you go back to. There would be a huge difference before you could go back to digging ditches as opposed to a sedentary lifestyle as a secretary or librarian).

I got banded on a Friday and came back to work on Monday......I'm an accountant, so generally have no heavy lifting........however on Wed. after my band I spent the whole day packing up the office/computers because hurricane Rita was heading our way........I did more than I should have here and at home, but I was just very sore and tired, thankfully didn't damage anything. Everyone is different, just know your limits and don't push them. Best of luck to you!

My dad had his surgery at 70 years old in April. He was driving and out and about by day three. He is retired, but takes care of all his rental properties (upkeep/mowing lawns/plumbing, etc.). Not bad for 70 !

I had my surgery on a tuesday and went back to work the folllowing Tuesday. I am social worker-no heavy lifting involved !!!!!!!!!

I was banded on a Tuesday, and I was supposed to go back to work the following Monday but I couldn't... I went the following Thursday but I was still sore. The first week I even had trouble getting out of bed on my own. Editing to add that I have a desk job.

My surgery was on a Friday, and I went back to work for just a few hours the following Thursday and Friday. So what 6 days later I was back.

I have a desk job too and the up and down was quite a bit much, even after rising my chair to it's full position.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
