Nausea heighten by smells

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've got a question? Has anyone had really bad nausea brought on my different smells and odors? I'm finding myself nauseaus most of the day. I can't live on Zofran and Phenergan.

So far I only feel nauseous after I eat. I have been making sure to coincide my meals with meds whenever possible. How far out are y?u?

Smells haven't made me nauseous as such, but I have found that my taste and smell senses are heightened. (Like something from True Blood!)

Everything tastes different and I can smell things I'd never noticed before. Very strange.

I hope you feel better soon! x

The same happened with my taste, smells don't make me nauseous though. My hubby even said surgery changed my taste sense, before I used to love sweet stuff(biscuits, chocolate)now I find most things too sweet!:)

Rhonda :)

Rhonda, I am 5 weeks out and yes I am finding different odors are making me nauseaus. I work in a office setting and even the smell of paper and magazines is making me hold my nose. The only time I felt this way was when I was pregnant with my first child. I DO NOT LIKE IT!!! :thumbdown:Can anyone relate and please tell us when it will end.

Deb, That is exactly what I told my mom. I told her I feel like I'm pregnant. Some things sounds real good I will cook it take two bites, and get nauseaus. Yesterday my friend came over with her dogs, and the smell don't normally get to me, but I actually had to go to my room, until the dogs left because the smell made me nauseaus. I felt like a horses butt, I love them dogs, but I just could not handle the doggie smell. Another thing bothering me is the texture of the food. Once I puree it and put it my mouth, thats it I can only eat one or two bites, and then in the garbage it goes. I hope I don't get malnutrition I don't know what else to do. I can get down a scrambled egg ok, but that is about it right now.

OMW I thought I was the only one that this happened to! My sense of smell has been so hightened! I had some cups next to my bed and the smell of the contents were driving me nuts, I had to move them clear to the other side of the room. My taste is super sensitive too - everything is a flavor explosion or it tastes totally weird and can't drink it.

If I smell something strong for too long it does make me feel nauseous.

Not sure yet if this is good or bad. The smell is really strange though, I didn't read about that pre surgery so it was a surprise for me.

I am experiencing the same thing! When I need to eat something I really have to give it some thought because one day a certain food will sound wonderful and the next day it sounds awful. I too can relate to my first pregnancy when certain foods or smells could send me over the edge!

Hey Sleeve Longtimers! Does this subside eventually?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've never been pregnant before and now I can I confirm that I never will be. Not that that was an issue. but this nausea is killing me.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
