Which was worse getting the sleeve or having a c-section?

Recommended Posts

I am getting sleeved this Thursday (YAY!) and was curious of the pain vs. having a c-section. Is the recovery about the same or is it tougher. I know everyone is different, but still curious. :thumbup1: Thanks for you replies in advance.

C section.. it isn't done laproscopically so the recovery takes much longer. You will be up and around in no time.

OMG, C-section was so much worse it isn't even funny!

Plus, after the sleeve you get to go home and rest instead of having a newborn baby to take care of! :thumbup1:

I've had 2 C-Sections, and even with my laundry list of things they did during my surgery (lapband removal, sleeve, hiatal hernia repair, gallbladder removal, and adhesion removal) the sleeve surgery was much easier. The smaller incisions heal so much faster and are less painful.

The sleeve was a minor bump compared to 2 c-sections and open hysterectomy, you dont have that "my guts are falling out" feeling. I was gro shopping by the 4th day, driving and cooking meals. It's not bad-promise!

Oh wow, my c-section wasn't all that bad I didn't think, so this will be cake (knock on every wooden surface, cross my chest, say a prayer to someone).

C-sections are definitely worse. I hardly had any pain with VSG. The only time it hurt a little in the hospital was when I had to lift my body to move over or get up and even that was nothing compared to the c-sections. With the c-sections (I had three), my incision would burn every time I got up from the bed or the couch. It was nothing like that with the VSG. With my first two c-sections, I couldn't sleep flat on my back for two weeks. With the VSG, not only did I sleep flat on my back as soon as I got home, but I was able to sleep on my side just a couple of nights later.

I agree. The C-section was worse! And I don't think my C-section was totally awful. But having that much muscle tissue cut does not mix well with getting up, sitting down, standing, walking, rolling over, moving, etc....:laugh0:

The VSG surgery was only painful to me because of the hiatal hernia repair. That aspect alone was as bad as the C-section (for me anyway). But the other aspects of the sleeve surgery were minor in term of pain.

Now, if anyone else here has had fibroids removed, you know that that's the mother of painful abdominal surgery. OMG! That trumps the C-section any day! I was miserable after that one. Not sure I would do that again...

Hello,

It's funny that you would ask that quesiton because the first thing I told my husband after I was fully awake was that this pain was worse than my C-section. That is the only thing I could think to compare it too. But keep in mind that everybody's pain tolerance is different. Another thing that I found hard to deal with was the fact that they were giving me too much pain medication. I would be in pain would ask for pain medication they would bring it late then want to give me morphine or dilaudid which was just too much. On top of that they gave me a PCA. I was climbing the bed with every click. I finally told them that I wanted the pain medication that they were sending me home with once I got that everything was fine.

Good Luck.

Tinel

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
