  1. I had my surgeon consultation last week and he recommended gastric bypass over the sleeve. :sad0:This was confusing to me because he performs both but feels the sleeve is actually more risky because of the large area that is stapled and the possibility of leaks. I thought it was less risky since the intestines are not involved. He likes the long term results of the bypass and the sleeve is too new to have a long track record. He is entitled to his opinion but I really want the sleeve and I know I have a choice. So to the sleeve community, can I get some feedback on why you have chosen the sleeve vs. gastic bypass? I would appreciate your thoughts!:biggrin0: Also, is there a comparable site for gastric bypass patients? It's a big decision and I want to read as much as possible.
  2. Hello! I am in Houston, Texas and going for my doctor consultation on June 10th. I've learned that my insurance company will cover the Sleeve (United Healthcare/AT&T plan). The insurance company needs 5 years of doctor records showing I have been overweight for this length of time. I actually haven't been good about going to the doctor at all for the last several years. Has anyone had this requirement and received approval without the 5 years of weight "proof"? Do morbidities assist in this case? This week I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Thanks for any feedback you can offer!
  3. Hey Sleeve Sister! You are doing amazing! I've lost 45 since 8/17 but that's a drop in the bucket compared to you! Love your new pic!

    Food Servers seemed annoyed

So sorry about the rude comments to you! I also have found that waitstaff seem worried about the amount I eat. Here's my new trick....if I order my own meal, I ask for a to go container when the food is served. I put most of the meal in the box and the waitstaff have no idea how much or how little I have eaten!
  5. I have UHC and was approved in 2 days. I had heard they were fast and I called UHC on my own and they gave me the greats news! I then called my surgeon's office. Good luck with your approval!
  6. My heartburn felt constant as well! I started taking Prilosec about 4 weeks out and I feel 100% better. I was lucky that it started working the first day even though the package says it can take several days. Check with your doctor and I hope you feel more comfortable soon!
  7. Happy Birthday!

  8. My energy level was low during the first 4-5 weeks, especially late afternoon to early evening. Even though you are doing all of the right things, your body is still recovering from surgery. I started feeling an abundance of energy during week 6. I hope it continues!
  9. Radiant profile pic! Very pretty girl!

    Stalling so soon????

This thread is so helpful because I am 5 weeks post op in what I will call my second stall. The first one was at 3 weeks. I've heard that an official stall is 14+ days but seeing the scale move every day right after surgery was quite fun! I thrive on results but I think I might try to weigh only once a week and see if I can stop stressing over the numbers. This will be a challenge for me! I find it helpful to take measurements once a week. Yesterday even though the darn scale didn't move, I still lost 3 1/2 inches. So I am shrinking! :thumbup1: It's funny how everyone's experiences are so different but yet the same in many ways. It's comforting to find that others are going through some of the same challenges.

    A special gift

Great ideas! The journal is good for recording success and I'll bet the girls could show him some extra attention by helping him with small things. There were also times after surgery when I just wanted to be alone and rest. My 11 year-old daughter "measures" my waist by throwing her arms around me to give me a big hug. It's become a ritual and she always says, "Yep! You are getting smaller! I'm proud of you Mom!" It's truly better than any success I see on the scale.

    United Healthcare????

I have UHC and was approved in 2 days. I did not have to do a supervised diet and was on the surgery schedule a few weeks after approval. I'm about 5 weeks post op and UHC has already paid 90% of the costs. Good luck to everyone who is waiting for approval!! Once you receive approval everything starts falling into place very quickly!
  14. I only took one week off but looking back I wish I had taken 2 weeks. I was tired and it would have been good to have had more rest before returning to work.
  15. Hi Friends, I've hit the 30 pound mark and ready to tackle another 10 pounds! I'm getting used to my new tummy and finding that some food sounds good one day and then horrible the next. I'm focusing only on 10 pounds at a time because that helps me mentally. I've been exercising but some days I am really tired afterwards instead of energized. I'm literally never hungry, so eating can really be a chore. Did I just say that? :) How is everyone doing?

  16. Hey sleeve sister! You are really losing weight quickly! Congrats! Everything going well for you?

    Nausea heighten by smells

I am experiencing the same thing! When I need to eat something I really have to give it some thought because one day a certain food will sound wonderful and the next day it sounds awful. I too can relate to my first pregnancy when certain foods or smells could send me over the edge! Hey Sleeve Longtimers! Does this subside eventually?
  18. My C-section was much more painful than the sleeve. I'm 4 weeks post op today and you can barely see the scars.

    Cash Pay- Houston Area??

I didn't cash pay but I would highly recommend The Davis Clinic! Either Garth Davis or Robert Davis. Give them a call!

    Tomorrow is SLEEVE DAY!

So glad you are feeling better and congrats on making it to onederland!!! Way to go!
  23. My doctor cleared me after 1 week. From now until my 2 month check up he wants me doing at least 30 minutes of card 5 days a week plus 10000 steps daily. Oh and the steps taken during card do not count towards my 10000 steps! I was surprised that I can lift weights but he said to listen to my body and don't do anything if it hurts. I'm 15 days post op and I've been on the eliptical and lifting weights at the gym. Of course everyone should follow their own doctors orders.

    dance workout video/DVD recommendation

@ shrinkinggrl - I've heard so many people say how much they love Zumba! Do you own the DVD's or do you participate in a class?
  25. Hello! Glad to hear your surgery went well. Are you up and aroung and feeling great? I went back to work 1 week post op and the only thing I'm struggling with is feeling tired by early to mid afternoon.
