When do the Gas Pains Start?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Tuesday the 17th and so far so good. My question is I see so many people talk about gas pains, when do they start? Right after surgery or few days later.... when?

I never had any - I did take a Gas-X for the first 4-5 days, just in case.

The gas pains are primarily caused by the way they perform laproscopic procedures. Your abdomen is inflated so that the surgeon can see what he is doing and manuever around. It takes a few days for your body to absorb the residual gas and initially, it can get trapped in small pockets in your abdominal cavity, and this is painful. If you haven't had gas pains by now, I doubt that you will have any problems. Good for you!

Wow! I've read over and over again about the "gas" pains, so it sounds like not everyone gets them, man I hope I'm one of those who doesn't get them yikes!!!

I had the gas pains and they lasted for at least 3 weeks and were TERRIBLE! I had to take liquid Tylenol (didn't need anything from the pain from surgery besides that) and wore the Thermal Care heat wraps on my back a lot, that seemed to help. All of a sudden they were gone.. and I moved around a lot! Good luck and I hope you don't get them!

I had gas pain as soon as I woke up. I had so much pain in my back I can't even explain how bad it was! I can feel bubbles of gas moving around in my stomach and it is painful. Walking helps alot. It is mostly gone now, just a little at night still. But I do have this great thing called Post Surgery Depression! From what I understand it is caused from Anesthesia. I just start crying for no reason at all. Mostly in the mornings. :001_rolleyes:

Shhhhhhhhhhhh, if they know they didn't hurt you they will come back to haunt you! You are a lucky duck. The gas pains were the ONLY pain I experienced post op. And any pain who is only eased by farting is not pleasant!

Yesssssss, it's all about the walking. After surgery, your mantra should be, sip, sip, walk, walk.

I must have been lucky as well! Almost no gas pain but I did do a lot of walking. For the first 3 days I could feel some gurgling but no real pain.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
