I'm finally on the schedule for surgery. So far, it is July 19th that is if my boss doesn't ruin it. She told me last Friday I wasn't a team player nor a respectful person, b/c I am having this surgery during our busiest time of the year and she is gonna be short people. In my opinon that is NOT my fault, but she is making it mine. I have gone thru 2 yrs of trying to get approval and have updated her each and everytime I knew something. I'm having a tough time just getting myself mentally prepared for this surgery let alone have to deal with her on top of it. Anyways, I need some advice.........I haven't got my actual orders of what the doctor requires before hand for me to do ex post op diet, but do know I will be doing one. I would like to know though what kind of things can I buy or have on hand ready for surgery. I know that I have been reading alot about tastes of things changing and not to buy alot of things, but anything I CAN buy that would be ok. I just want to be prepared ahead of time with anything I can be........I'm also scared that I won't be able to do this new way of eating. I'm used to eating whatever. I don't count calories and stuff like that...hoping the dietitian will help me with all that when I see her. Guess over all any advice you can give me would be appreciated....Thanks Tiffykin on the advice you have given me up to this point have read it numerous times and have taken notes:)

Tryin to smile telling myself I am doing the right thing even if I am being told I am not a team player.......

As an employer, I can understand their concern to a point, but if you have been working there for over 2 years, seems like you are a loyal employee! Has she not heard of labor ready or other temp workers?? I think you work in the medical field also, right?? Not sure if I remember that correctly or not. Overall, self and family comes before employers. Sheesh! She should be happy for you (and herself) that you will be a healthier and happier employee!

I bought very little before surgery. I was concerned about what would sound good afterwards, so went to the store on the way home from the airport : )

Popsicles, gasx strips, sugar free pudding and Jello, chicken broth .... I already had crystal lite in the house but can not drink the flavors I used to.

Good luck with your planning! It is exciting for sure!!

I'm 3 weeks post-op (had done in Tijiana with Dr. Corvala). My husband and I did together, he was day before so I could help him, then I was the next day. We stayed 5 days in the hosital and then 1 night at hotel the hospital setup for us. I would say the hospital staff was amazing. Very caring people. No problems at all. Our biggest issues have been getting enough Water, and Fiber... I'm finding this more and more difficult especially on a low-carb diet. I have been cooking alot of Beans and that should help. Also going to start adding a slice of whole wheat toast.

After the first week we thought we had made the wrong decision, but after 2 more weeks we are feeling better and eating some foods. Still not hungry or craving anything we can't eat.

I would also say that none of my clothes fit when I went to leave the hospital, I was very swollen and didn't have any really loose pants. Make sure you take loose fitting clothes.

First, let me congratulate you on getting a date. That is very exciting news.

Secondly, sorry to hear your boss is a Scrooge. Back when I was still working, I had a similar thing happen. My dr advised me to take 1 month medical leave, when I told the HR person, I was told pretty much the same as you. That employees should only take off for emergencies.

I reminded her that I had benefits which included sick time. So, she had no right to argue. She backed down but still tried to make me feel guilty.

What you have to remember, is that this isn't just about weight loss. It's about getting healthy and extending your life expectancy. My company didn't fall apart when I took time off and neither will yours.

Take care of yourself and do what is right for you.

Yay, another July sleever! I'm set for the 15th!

Oh boy, I can relate to your dilemma. I am also getting this done at our busiest time and I know my boss isn't so pleased. But I am getting worse with all the extra the weight, plus other medical issues that are dragging me down. I am looking at it basically as an emergency. I have been at my job for 4+ years and I NEED this time to take care of me for a change. I am the only office person who does EVERYTHING including emergency dispatching but my boss is just gonna have to get someone to help. I go above and beyond my job almost daily so I am not really thinking twice about it. Now if I have any complications, that will be a different story. I PRAY everything will go smooth.

You have been waiting such a LONG time. If it's not gonna risk your job then just do it.

Good luck!

Congrats on being a June sleever!!

Fingers crossed your boss doesn't make this too hard for you - you need all your energy to concentrate on the op and the mental issues that come with it, so the less stress in the rest of your life the better.

Good luck

Kathy

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
