July Surgeries
Hey there, checking in. Had surgery July 14, 2010. Went from 287.5 down to 152lbs and a size 8. I am maintaining well and finding it almost effortless. I exercise several times a week and now able to be very active. Before I was pretty much handicap and not able to do much at all. I want to attach a recent pic but I'm on iPad and the site requires flash. Oh well. I hope everyone out there is doing as well as I am. I love my sleeve!

how long till i can work after having the sleeve?
I have a desk job and I had surgery 2 weeks ago on wednesday and was back to work the following monday. I was a bit tired and fatigued so maybe driving you would want to take a bit more time off.

The day of surgery.........
After my surgery (on Wednesday) I was NPO so I was not allowed ANYTHING by mouth. It was HORRIBLE but I did fight with the nurse aids and get cups of Water out of the bathroom and just swish my mouth out. I did not swallow. I kept one cup to drink and one to spit out in. It was gross but believe me I would do it all over again. Some of the nurses thought I was drinking but I just showed them that I was spitting it out. With the A/C on, plus the oxygen in your nose, AND the anesthesia you dry out real quick. I don't know how others could do that with nothing...not even spitting. Hope this helps. ~Lori

So excited for you. Also noticed you only have to do pre-op diet for a week! LUCKY. I have to do Optifast shakes for 2 weeks. I don't know how I'm going to get through it. Please keep posting on your progress.

Therapy
This is basically my journal, although public. Hoping this will help me sort out my feelings. I am having VSG surgery July 15th and figured I better learn about myself and my poor relationship with food. This is a journey that I have never been on before. I was able to "diet" and lose weight plenty of times but I have never dealt with the issues that caused me to gain the weight in the first place. Sooooo, started therapy this week. No much to say for the first visit, just mostly intake questions. I was surprised to have a DX already: General Anxiety Disorder. After researching I would have to agree. I have very poor coping skills and tend to stuff my face to help the "out of control" feeling. I also feel like I'm coming out of my skin when the anxiety is real high. I cannot wait until I can take control of this or at least calm it down. It's taking a toll on my concentration at work and I noticed I'm beginning to lose control a lot when I drive. And I don't mean, scared to drive, I mean I am getting VERY aggressive. I think I'm just redirecting the anxiety of the day's work into my driving, then sitting in a ton of traffic every day is really taking it's toll on me and the little patience I have. I am glad to have the weekend to reflect upon this diagnosis and maybe find a book or two that can help me until my therapy visits kick in. My new therapist is booked for the next couple of weeks and I REALLY need help now so I better reach out and find it myself. Luckily I am very resourceful.

Scheduled July 19th
Yay, another July sleever! I'm set for the 15th! Oh boy, I can relate to your dilemma. I am also getting this done at our busiest time and I know my boss isn't so pleased. But I am getting worse with all the extra the weight, plus other medical issues that are dragging me down. I am looking at it basically as an emergency. I have been at my job for 4+ years and I NEED this time to take care of me for a change. I am the only office person who does EVERYTHING including emergency dispatching but my boss is just gonna have to get someone to help. I go above and beyond my job almost daily so I am not really thinking twice about it. Now if I have any complications, that will be a different story. I PRAY everything will go smooth. You have been waiting such a LONG time. If it's not gonna risk your job then just do it. Good luck!

Question for sleevers who's insurance covered surgery
Haven't had surgery yet but I was told $250 for each day in the hospital, so $250 to $500...
