April 2010 Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

I went shopping and have dropped from a 2-3X to a 18! And when I was trying on clothes in the little room with the BIG mirror, I stripped down to matching panties and bra, and I LIKED my reflection! I was on a high all day!

Here, here I totally know what you mean!...I have not had any kind of sweets (other than sugar free Jello pudding) since 2 weeks prior to surgery and tomorrow is my 6th week! not interested...although I do still seem to occassionally take just one more bite than I should have! I am trying to slow down and listen to my my body but old habits are hard to break! I was in a stall for at least 3 weeks and finally think (I hope anyway) broke it with a 3 lb lost on Saturday! It is soooo good to see the scale move again! This weekend went to Old Navy and bought a large shirt without even trying it on and the dog gone thing fit. that made me happy!

hello everyone!

I am really glad that everyone is doing well. I on the other hand has not had an easy time. I have been suffering from mucus buildup, gagging, vomiting (never food or liquids) and extreme fatigue. I have seen my surgeon many times and he is monitoring my progress. I was hospitalized for dehydration around 3 weeks ago but that was a godsend and it helped me so much. I am still having trrouble with Protein since everything smells and tastes gross. I am really crossing my fingers that this is the peak of my problems and I will start to feel better. On the positive side I am down about 37 pounds and about 1/2 way to goal! good luck everyone and if anyone has suffered what I am experiencing or advise please let me know...take care!

Doing well here:) Less pain in my feet and knees - I am able to walk a lot and feel good working out - YIPEE! It's nice to be 2 months out - I feel a little bit more normal and can eat a variety of food so I don't feel deprived anymore.....

I'd say the biggest change is that I actually look at myself in the mirror, instead of looking "past" my reflection. I am happy with my progress. I have stopped letting the scale get me so upset and am trying to find non-scale victories.

girly.girl - hope that you feel better soon!!!

I had a 3 week stall at 3 weeks.lol. Hang in there and measure to see if inches are coming off then you're doing great. I feel better too but only walking 1 mile a day..being kind to my knee's. I have gone from 18w jeans to 16 and they are getting loose.YAY!! I'm still trying to work this tool but my loss is satisfactory to me:) and I'm 6 weeks out tommorrow. Does anyone know when we can start sit-ups and other exercises?Carla:confused1:

Does anyone know when we can start sit-ups and other exercises?Carla:confused1:

Dr. Aceves told me I had to wait until 8 weeks out to do sit-ups or lift anything over 10 lbs. I've got to admit that I've been lifting my grandchildren (too hard to resist) since about 6 weeks out.

Funny thing is that I showed the incision wounds (healed over) to my 5 year old grandgirl, to try to explain why I couldn't lift her, and when she looked upset at the ow'ies, I told her I had the doctor give me extra belly buttons! Now she asks me if I can get into the hot tub (I couldn't until they healed over) and I tell her I can float better than her because I have extra belly buttons. Sounds stupid writing it down, but you should have heard those little girls laugh!:)

Thanks for the situp info, I too have been lifting my smallest grand, that is so cute about the belly buttons. Little girls are special.Mine keeps telling me my legs are still fat..guess she thinks it was a magic melt fat off surgery.lol:lol0:

Little girls are special

They sure are! They bring me SUCH JOY! Part of the reason I wanted to do something serious about my weight is that I was having trouble getting down in the sand with them at the beach and playing! Or getting on the floor to play. I didn't want to miss that because of my weight!

It's getting better now, and I just started exercising with a girlfriend. I'm hoping to build a great sandcastle with them, or bury them in sand, this summer!:scared0:

Hi April sleevers!!

It's so good to hear from some of you.

I'm doing great...I'm down 29 lbs since surgery and 53 lbs off my high weight in the middle of March. As of about 2 weeks ago I had lost 24.5 inches. I can see it in my face but that's about it. Other people are definitely noticing. I'm still wearing the same clothes though for the most part...I guess most of my pants were getting pretty tight before and now they're pretty loose. I did wear a pair of pants the other day that I haven't been able to fit into in over 2 years. I love those pants which is why I've held on to them..lol

I have yet to find any food that doesn't agree with me. But I do need to learn to eat slower and to learn how to not take that last bite that overfills me. I think slowing down will help that.

Oh and I'm not really exercising. My back went out a few weeks ago and it's still not back to my normal..which is to say it still hurts but I'm functionable. Still a lot of things I can't do. I'm trying to swim as much as possible.

I love my sleeve and so far so good!

Hi to all you April Sleevers!

Glad to hear you are all doing so well, except for you poor girly.girl. I hope by now things have settled for you?

I am also doing well. I started with a BMI of 36 and am now down to 31 which pleases me. I have only lost 25 lbs so far.

I am interested to hear about your inch loss, and how to calculate it.

I have measured myself in several places and am keeping a record. How many of these sites can you include when you are adding up the inch loss? I have lost 2" from my waist. I have measured my neck, shoulders, ribcage, bust, several different abdominal measurements at strategic places, upper arm. lower arm, wrist, thigh, hips, lower leg, knee and ankle. Can I include every single one of them in my total?

Speaking of exercise, I think that is (or was) my downfall. I have started a fun way of motivating ourselves while we are trying to increase our exercise. Look out for the thread called :-

"13 - 19th June. Pledge your points" and come and join me there.

Looking forward to seeing all you April movers and shakers on that weekly thread.

9 weeks out...stalled a bit in weight loss but I can begin to see my collar bones and the clothes are loose...I realize how much i still have to lose and get discouraged a bit...I have trouble with eating too fast...but i work on it.

I go to the gym 5 days a week...can't bring myself to go on weekends. Excercise actually helps with my energy and lessens my head hunger.

All in all it's good...just doesn't feel as magical as before...it's much more like

work...it took a long time to gain it and it's gonna take some time to lose it..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
