I have heard about VSG and am starting to research it. I have an inactive thyroid and no matter what I do I am having a hard time losing weight. Since taking my medicine I have gained almost 30 pounds. Has anyone had this procedure done that has hypothyroid proplems? Can anyone share any info? Thanks. :wink0:

I am only one and a half weeks post-op but I do have hypothyroidism. So I can't give you staggering results as proof it doesn't matter but I have already lost 14.5 pounds. I asked that same question on here before I had surgery and I spoke with my surgeon about it and everyone agreed it shouldn't matter as long as you have your thyroid under control with medication. Have you had your TSH checked lately? Are your numbers in the normal range? As long as you are actively being treated it shouldn't make a difference. Good luck to you!

I also have hypothyroidism. My levels are being checked now for pre surgery just to make sure that my levels are in a normal range. My doctor also says it should not be a factor as long as your TSH levels are in a normal range and you have them checked routinely.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. My TSH levels have been in the normal ranges. I haven't talked to my doctor yet. Not sure how she feels about surgery. She keeps saying to eat better and exercise more. I have done that but still don't lose weight.

I had the same worries but I am loosing pretty quickly. I am only a little over 3 weeks but so far so good. I had read on here that the sleeve could maybe reverse it but my Dr. told that it would not, I will always have it. Like you, I gained weight when I started my medicine and had almost given up hope before I discovered this surgery. It does work. Good Luck!

I'm also pre-op, also hypothyroid, and never have any luck losing weight on my own. I am very excited to be sleeved and starting a new life!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I plan on checking with my doctor, but if she tries to talk me out of it, my husband and I think it is still the right choice for me. I'm hoping to have it done by the end of May.

I'm almost 12 weeks post-op. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 16 years. I think I've done really well & my TSH levels are in the normal range. I go tomorrow for another check-up of the levels.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
