So I overdid it today!

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks out and I just can't understand overeating. I have gastritis they tell me and the meds make me sick, I have stopped taking them today as they made me throw up. The sheer taste of the capsule does it.

I am still so lightheaded I cannot work and I do not want to eat. Everything seems to taste so nasty. This morning I had an egg and 1/2 slice of toast and the feeling it makes in my stomach is not pleasant. It's not like the stomach of old being really full, it's the feeling of nausea/discomfort. Anybody have any thoughts?, Protein drinks are nasty, brushing my teeth makes me gag. I can't even change my son's diaper with vomiting. Help please.

Sorry you are having a rough time.

eggs are hard for many people - especially 5 weeks out. Toast can also be a problem. Protein shakes are nasty - I agree.

How do you do with refried Beans, cheese, Soups, etc.? Have you been able to eat any meats?

It sounds like you're just not ready for solid food. I didn't try bread for months post-op. Your tummy isn't even finished healing yet. If you have to take a few steps back, and go back to mushies or even full liquids, give your body time to heal.

If the nausea gets too severe, you need to contact your surgeon to ensure that you don't have any other issues.

Are you getting in at 64ounces of clear fluids per day? If not, dehydration can cause nausea. If you're getting in your fluids, see if you can get some anti-nausea meds to help control it.

My sense of smell was extremely heightened post-op and I gagged with certain smells as well. Unfortunately, even meds didn't fix that problem.

Try refried Beans with some greek yogurt/cheese melted in, egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad without the raw veggies would be good soft options for you to maybe try.

Thanks all, I am eating a thin crust pizza so all food is not bad, this seems to get me past some of the extra acid I have. My egg and toast tasted fine this morning, my problems are obviously stemming from the gastritis. Anybody have this issue?

And no I am not getting in all I should because I have to swallow 8 nasty pills a day that fills my stomach and then top it off with Pepto Bismol, which is so thick, vomiting may happen.

When does the gag reflex thing go away? It's just wrong to puke over brushing your tongue.

lowkee -- I had some major pains from week 3 until week 10 after my surgery, I took stomach relaxers (prescribed by my surgeon) had some gastric test ran, etc, they couldn't figure it out...I finally stopped them when I felt my stomach digestion was starting to work on it's own--I could not handle the stomach pains, worse than my cycle pains and much worse than the surgery pain-- I NEVER took any pain meds at the hospital, not even my morphine button. I wanted to go back to work ASAP and knew I would have to handle the pain, but those gastric problems put me under, I would take 2-3 hot baths a day, sometimes in the middle of the night and have to take a pill 30 minutes before each meal, :001_tongue: I hope yours can work itself out!

As for the stomach shrinking at night, it does...even with my band it did...normal stomachs do too---just harder to tell, the word break-fast means to break your fast...so there you go! I use the morning to eat my fruit...stopped trying to get in Protein, save the Protein for lunch and supper. Plus the fruit helps keep me regular!

So ... has anyone else had a day where you were totally able to eat more than usual, but the next day your restriction was so tight you hardly got anything down? That happened to me today. Weird!

Yes! I remember vividly Dr. Aceves telling me that this was normal. I thought he was just being silly (the way he told the story explaining this was cute!) but it's absolutely so true. I also find that I am much tighter in the mornings. Go figure!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
