I'm 50 and was sleeved two and a half weeks ago. There is nothing but good about getting this done, even as a 'vintage' person. I'm already off three of my five hypertension meds and my asthma is also slightly improved. I'm hoping that this will also help all my joint and back pains too.

If life is worth having, it's worth living it xx

Good Lord, your never too old to want to help yourself and your health! I was 47 when i did my sleeve. . .I could have been 80 and probably gone for it, doctor might not have done but i would have tried! Good for you! You go girl!!!!!

Lookinupin2010 - I am also from Arizona (Phoenix area) - I see from your post that you will be sleeved soon - did you by chance ask your doctor how many sleeves he has done? That's one thing that is starting to concern me. I'm having it done in Scottsdale March 31st - my surgeon has done 36 sleeves - I'm trying to figure out if this makes her "experienced" enough. Thanks.

I echo the thoughts of everyone else and say don't let your age get in the way of living the best life you can! And that means using the sleeve to help you reach your weight loss goals. Losing that excess weight will help you look and feel much younger also. I'll be 49 this month and feel better than I have since I was in my 20's.

The only negative thing about losing weight at this age is noticing that my fat was "filling out" some of my wrinkles. Now that the fat is gone, the skin sags a bit here and there. But that's a small price to pay to be in better health. Go for it!!!:001_tongue:

I'll be 64 next week and getting sleeved on 4/5. Like others have said, you're never too old for this. Think of how amazing our remaining years will be as thin people!!!!! Let's here it for us "mature" crowd. Rah Rah Rah!!:001_tongue:

Everyone said it all... I just turned 50 and thought... it is NEVER too late to turn back the clock... sometimes I think we "feel" older because we are out of shape, on meds and buy into the "youth is everything" attitude that advertisements try to sell us. I am in a PhD program, the class I am in is about Aging... and I read yesterday that today OLD age is 85!!!!!! Of course, if you are in poor health it goes down to 60! What an eye opener to me! Each person who jumped out there and said I am XX years old... are heroes. I am hitting the Operating room on the 30th with dr. verboonen in Mexico, no surgery. I am going into debt to be healthier, well worth it!

Hugs and prayers sent your way! :-) Jen

You are definitely not too old for bariatric surgery. I am 52, will be 53 April 14th and was sleeved on Feb.9th with Dr. Aceves. At just over a month I have lost 40 lbs. I am feeling great, not as many backaches and the headaches that have plagued me since I was 17 are almost gone. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!!!!!:001_tongue:

Absolutely not! I was sleeved 2/5/20 and I am 50! I have lost 35 lbs so far. Had the same concerns as you about age, but learned that 59 is still really young for this surgery!

You are not to old. I'm 52 and was sleeved in Jan. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I wish It would have been available 20 years ago...and I had done it back then. I've lost 36 lbs and feel soooooo much better already. I'm walking/riding bike 4 miles 3 x 4 times a week. Before this surgery, I huffed and puffed to walk 2 blocks. Best of luck to getting everything done so you can move forward.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
