Did everyone get a card?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a card and wouldn't use one if I did -- for some reason it just seems "TMI"-ish to me and kind of makes me twitch. That said, I don't hesitate to order an appetizer instead of a full meal, or share with my DH, or order off the kids' menu. California pizza Kitchen has a great grilled chicken breast and broccoli item on their kids' menu, and I just say "I'm on a very strict diet and would like the kids' grilled chicken," and they take my order without a problem.

I understand completely MlkPas, and had we been in a non-buffet situation, there would not have been a problem. I would have done exactly that. Its what I have done in the past. :) However, I couldnt see having my dad pay $25.99 for a buffet meal just so I could eat 4 oz of food. They dont allow a "doggie bag" in any buffet that Ive been to in any Vegas Hotel. Perhaps its just because Ive never asked. Just seems a little low-brow to me. Asking to be charged for an extra plate or the kids meal price and suck down a little of my pride is not too much to ask IMESOH.

I got a card at my three hour pre-op nutrition. It is on the back of my surgeons business card. It simply states that I've had weight loss surgery and to allow me to order from the children's or senior's menus. I haven't used it yet since I'm not up to eating a lot of food. I think I eat about 2 oz right now.

My concern right now is the conferences that I attend. I have one coming up in September. I put on my registration form that I needed a chicken breast and mashed potatoes with no sauces for my meals. I'm hoping that they will help me out. They have been good to me in the past.

I got a card but I haven't used it. I eat so little that I usually ask a friend to share with me, though sometimes I order something small. I don't like coming home with a week's worth of leftovers, so I like it when I can share.

Now I'm wondering about business lunches. Can't really share meals there. Guess I will see what happens the first time I go to one when I get back.:)

I received a card, but never used it. I think it's just kind of embarrassing. I love to eat at restaurants and I probably eat out about 4 times a week. Never once had an issue getting what I wanted. I have been very successful eating only appetizer portions, or getting an entree and eating leftovers. There are TONS of options. Some things I usually order:

-seared ahi tuna, (appetizer portion),

-chicken wings (I can eat about 3, fiance will eat the rest)

-scoop of egg, tuna or chicken salad

-sandwiches (eat the meat, cheese and veggies, leave the bread)

-smoked fish dip appetizer with carrot and celery sticks

-side order of just meatballs if I am at an Italian restaurant

-chilli

-salads

Buffets for me, are awful. I don't like the quality of the foods and I also get freaked out by the thought of all those people handling the serving spoons. Ughhhh:scared0:

Ohh glad I am not the only one! I don't do buffets generally speaking because of this same reason. GAG. I don't mind pizza buffets (can't do those anymore huh lol) and there is one chinese buffet that my hubby LOVES so I would only agree to go RIGHT when they opened so the food was fresh and nobody had been digging with the utensils and putting their nasty faces up under things, coughing and other gross crap. Sorry went on a tangent lol. I do feel strongly about those things huh?

Yep! The last time I went to a buffet, pretty much was the point I made up my mind---never again. An unattended child, oh about 5 years old took a big scoop of something or other, plopped it on his plate, and then went on to lick the serving spoon and put it back in the serving dish. Lovely, no?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
