Cheesy Question

Recommended Posts

I am ready to date and be out there since my weight loss. I know they say not to look which brings me to the question...where did you meet your significant other? Were you looking? Were you at a good place emotionally? Physically?

I met my fiance on the internet. I wasn't looking, but bumped into him on a message board alot like this one (different topic). We were friends for over a year before either of us showed any interested, but we both 'came around' at about the same time. As of tomorrow, we'll have been together for 4 years, and we are getting married next year. :)

If you aren't going to 'look' (which is a good idea), I would recommend doing as many social things as you can, and making lots of friends. You never know what new friend might introduce you to their cousin, lol.

Hey Lins-

I met my husband on Match.com. Match is really cool because you are able to find out quite a bit about someone before you even meet them.

I will admit, I had a LOT of dates from the internet, an even a few boyfriends before I met Jim. But he is a keeper, and gorgeous too!!

Blind Date.

I knew enough about him before I even met him that I thought he just MIGHT be a keeper...things that were important to me. He went to church, he did things to take care of his widowed mother (took her to get her hair done, took her to the Y for exercise class, etc she doesn't drive), he owned a home so I knew he worked and wasn't totally irresponsible. So when I met him, I liked him fine as a friend, but no spark. But I was also lonely, coming out of a several year relationship with a guy who ended up moving to Colorado. I wasn't really ready for romance and he quit calling me. GASP!!!!!!!!!!!! Best thing he ever did. I got my act together and he finally called back. Funny how the no spark turned into flames pretty quickly after that. LOL We were engaged at Christmas, married by April, and it's been 9 years and 2 kids later and we are very happy! I got a good one.

My Mom met her hubby on eHarmony.com. They were married in Feb. He's 72, she's 67. You never know!

I saw your pics on the Before/After thread and you look wonderful lins! Go get 'em!

Actually interesting question, not cheesy :). I was close to 300 lbs when I met my husband, so definitely not at a good place physically, then proceeded to gain 55 lbs before I was banded. I met my husband doing community theater. We were both working on the same show. So, my advice would be to get out and do the things you enjoy doing, you never know who will be waiting for you right around the corner.

I met my DH at work. I dated from time to time, but didn't waste a lot of dates on those I knew wouldn't make it in the long haul. We only dated 3 mos b4 we got engaged & married after only 7 mos. This is the first marriage for both of us & we were married at age 32. We were both emotionally ready and knew what we wanted in a spouse. We were both a little overweight at the time & in better physical shape than we are now. :phanvan That's why we're both getting the band. :clap2: Always be true to who you are and the rest will follow. I wish you the very best!!!

I met my husband on Kiss.com (now udate.com). Chatted for 3 weeks, spoke on the phone with him one saturday for 3 hours and he told me he HAD to meet me. We've been together every since. We met 11/9/02 and were married on 7/2/05...my big teddy bear! He loves my son like his own and he calls me his angel *blush*. We're so lucky to have each other. I was overweight when I met him and then I put on 36 pounds. Heck we both got in that comfort zone and gained. Now banded I weigh 2 pounds less than when we met and I'm going to keep on going. wahooooo

My husband and I worked at the same hospital so I peripherally knew of him as the cute guy who worked there. Well we went on a date and two weeks later got married. Only reason we waited that long is it was a holiday week and we thought we had a waiting period of 3 days. Been together almost 17 years now. We were truly made for each other and my heart still thumps when he comes in the door.

Oh by the way I had the *THIS IS VERY CORNY* honeymoon baby. Got preggers immediately. Had our daughter nine months four days after getting married. So we have always been together.

I met my husband at Gold's Gym--he was my trainer--back when I was about 70 lbs thinner but still a little chunky.

He's been great through all my weight ups and downs. I certainly was not looking--in fact, I was at the place in my life where I just wanted to focus on myself--physically, mentally, etc.

Five months after his weight training me, we went on a date--ice skating--and have been together ever since. That's when the weight started creeping up on me though--we went out to eat almost every night--to buffets mainly.

He's happy for me now--that I've been banded and am working towards a healthier me...

I met my husband at church. We dated for 3 days and were engaged, married fewer than 6 months later. That was 13 years ago, and we're happier with every day that passes.

I was chunky but certainly not skinny. And I was in a great place emotionally.

Church is a great place to meet your spouse!

I really wanted to get married so I read a book called "How to get Married in a Year or Less"? It was great, it helped you figure out who you were and what you wanted in a husband. I eliminated casual dating and only went out with men I thought had potential, ie met the requirements. I dated a lot!!! I got on a christian dating site and met guys there too. In fact that site is where I met my husband :) We are very happy and married for just over 2 years, newlyweds still :)

I believe the key is to meet lots of people and not to waste your time on those that don't meet you needs. There is no such thing as the one and only right person. You can love many times in your life. Find one that you love and loves you back. It's sheer numbers and working on yourself in the process. Good luck :)

PS if you just want to date casually there are lots of great men out there who don't want a commitment, just a fun girl to hang with :)

I met my husband of just less than 2 years on Match.com after being divorced for over 25 years. I decided in 2001 that it was time to meet someone. Having a career in technology I turned to technology to help me. I definitely wasn't meeting them at work or through business affiliations.

My first real dating experience (more than 3 times out together) was with an undertaker. I knew he wasn't a keeper, but he was good for my confidence. I realized that I definitely had a lot to offer and that I could and did want affection.

I met my hubby New Year's eve of 2002 after talking to him online and on the phone. The sparks flew, but it still was a while before either of us would admit we cared for each other. We were married in August 2004. He was definitely worth the wait. I was about 30 lbs lighter than I am now. He is very supportive of me and my weight challenges. He has never said anything about my weight or eating habits. He wants what's best for me that will make me healthy.

I met hubby on the internet too. One minute I'm plodding along happy in my little English life and next I'm whizzing off for weekends in Greece!

He sent me a ticket to spend the Millenium with him and in the meantime we decided I'd move here...so I still have return half of ticket. Came here Boxing Day 1999 and we married in 2001. He spoils me rotten :) and is supportive of the band, not because he wants or needs me to change but because he wants me healthier so I can join in and do more with him.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
