Hi people just want to give an update. I had the surgery in Costa Rica..i live here now. Everything went smoothly although i was surprised at the extreme discomfort thereafter. Im not sure if its the same for everyone but the first 2 days were like torture. Apparently the CO2 they pump you up with for laprascopic surgery, has a very slow exit strategy! The gas is in your cavity and not the bowels so you kinda have to walk it off. At forst i wish i hadnt done the surgery but by the forth day, i am happy and have lost more than 10 pounds! Now i need to get used to sipping on fluids like a baby all day. In order to get at least 1.5 liters of Water you need to take sips morning noon and night...takes a lot of getting used to.

I will keep you guys posted and thanks for the pre- advice !

Hi, glad you are doing well. You will be fine. It's expected to feel some discomfort at first but it sounds like you are doing well and you will find lots of help and advice here. Just keep on the fluids and follow your surgeon's dietary advice and you can't go wrong x

It is so good to hear from you. Glad you are doing better. I am 8 days out and the 2nd and 3rd days were the worst for me. I am doing great now and you will too. I'm down 18 lbs. and off my BP meds already. I promise things will get easier everyday.

Dont worry, im 6 days out and feel like a million bucks! I had an abnormal amount of air left in me. Its more like a big discomfort..Besides i dont think many people get it as bad as i did. No worries, life is good!

I had endometriosis surgery 5 years ago, and dealt with the gas they use to move your organs out of the way so they can see - and the aftermath of having your body rid itself of same with no orifice for relief, only absorption: pain in the shoulder, miserable discomfort for a couple of days, etc. I'm not looking forward to going thru that again, but ya do what ya gotta do. It's only a few days - out of the whole rest of your life.

Glad you're feeling better!

Sheri

My pain was not bad at all. I was afraid of what it was going to be like because of the left shoulder. I have problems with that shoulder and have had to get cortizone(sp) injections in it. I was very suprised at the small amount of pain that I had. The worse thing for me was the nausea on the second day and I recieved IV meds for that. It was gone the third day.

I guess its different for everyone, i never had nausia but the left shoulder was deadly. It did pass after about 4 days. In retrospect i think its a small price.

you are scaring me guys. how bad is it? I thought they "controlled" the pain with meds?

I had no pain at all except for some shoulder pain in my shoulder from the CO2 gas and that went away with a heating pad. I never took any pain medicine at all. Everyone's pain level is different; however, everyone who had their surger when I had mine had no pain - the incision where the drain is is uncomfortable -more like a pulled or sore muscle, not actual pain.

When they removed my drain, the sensation was un human. My shoulder was hurting so bad, but once he removed the drain tube....i was in heaven!

I didn't have any gas pain at all. In fact, I had very little pain associated with my surgery.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
