Had a nice little NSV myself today. Only have a couple pair of shorts left (that l can wear safely/ without falling down). I knew I had dropped a size or 2 from 42-44's I had been wearing. Did a little shopping at Kohls and actually fit comfortably into a size 36 pair of Levi denim shorts. I seriously do not remember the last time I was in a 36, let alone getting the first pair I tried on.

Whilst I was dog walking yesterday I spotted a fellow dog walker who I've known for ages but haven't seen for for a couple or three months as I've changed routes. I politely wished him and his partner (who I'd never met) a polite good morning. I got a polite but distant reply. My reaction was to put my hands on my waist (I can find it now without searching and faffing!) and shouted at him like a fishwife. Poor bugger looked completely puzzled until by looking at the dogs he realised it was me!!! He hadn't recognised me!!!!! Yay! He is Italian and gloriously camp so his consequent reaction and comments were WONDERFUL! My husband (who'd never met him) was grinning from ear to ear. I continued the walk with an added spring in my step! Ain't life grand after WLS?

Went back to work today after two weeks off. Last night decided to try on clothes to see what fits since I have lost about 22 lbs in last few weeks and lots of inches. I had to put 8 pairs of pants into the too big pile!! Thankfully I have clothes if every size in my closet to get me through the transition but was a great feeling to discard some!!

Oh god, a month out tomorrow and I already have had so many thrilling NSV's:

- I'm not constantly overheated so I'm using the A/C less at home and will save $$$

- saving $$$ on food

- people keep telling me I look "Rested" "Rejuvenated" or that I'm "glowing." A close friend told me I seemed "the best I've been in awhile."

- I moved to to a tighter hook on my bras

- I can walk up the hill on my way home from work without needing to catch my breath

- In fact I am already walking faster and longer than I have in the last 2 years

I tried on a XL dress and swim in it. No they didn't have L.Still have the fat girl mentality and reach out for labels with X in front of it. I can safely say that if its a stretchy fabric now I can wear L in tops comfortably.

Earlier this week I got up to greet and hug a friend walking into the restaurant I was sitting in. She thought I was some crazy woman trying to get too close to her. We laughed till we cried. She had not seen me in a year.

I'm not a fast loser. But I'm steady and staying focused. And NSVs give me extra motivation to stay focused.

This week I tried on a dress sized OX (from3-4X)and it fit. So I decided to splurge. I told myself I deserved it. I was so happy parading in my dress and heels at a party today. I wasn't wearing clothes to hide myself. I was happy and comfortable.

I'm only 3 weeks post-op, but I had an "Aha!" moment today.

I was reading health and wellness articles online, and one article regarding junk food had a picture of several different donuts. In the past, that picture would have triggered an intense I-have-to-eat-5-donuts-right-now type of craving. I would have walked to Dunkin Donuts or the bakery, bought a dozen, and eaten them all by the end of the day. When I saw the donut picture today, nothing happened. I simply read the article and then moved on to the next one. Like a normal person.

..........and that is how life is post-op.........good stuff.

I found that my cravings extended to grilled salmon, chicken breasts and such. It's a most welcome change and seems to be lasting and here to stay.

Good stuff.

I can remember running into Petco not too long ago......grabbing a 50 lb bag of dog food and toting it up to the cash register.

It dawned on me as I was walking through the parking lot with it tossed over my shoulder...., "Dude....you've lost 3 of these from your body". Big ole grin emerged.

I'm now working on getting shed of my 4th such bag now.......and starting on a 5th before my 12 month appointment in October.

7 weeks post op and they keep coming. I visited a friend who lives in a 5th floor walkup for the first time since surgery. Used to end up panting and wheezing by the time I got up there, red in the face etc. This time I went bounding up the stairs, dancing the whole way up. He couldn't believe it.

I haven't used my asthma inhaler since surgery.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
