Home early and feeling kind of yucky!

Those Protein shots are not supposed to be a good form of Protein. There is a lot of controversy on the subject. They are made with collagen which is boiled cow hides, but then again, so is Jello.

My dr. and nutritionist does not recommend that we use them, but I know a lot of people do.

Oh boy, swell. The other poster Caro said their doctor gave a thumbs up.

IDK, but I tried two of them today and I've had the major runs all day long along with a major stomach rumblings and lots of gas. I don't think this is a good sign for the product, either that or I cannot tolerate them.

YUCKO! I sure won't be trying those!

Am I correct in assuming that Isopure whey Protein Isolate unflavored is all from milk protein?

Don't want any boiled cowhide residue in my tummy!

I googled Body Fortress whey Protein shots and did not find any negative feedback on the product. Can you point me to the controversy?

Collagen Protein is not the best quality protein. That's the main controversy. Both my nutritionist for my band, and my revision signed off on them, but from my further research, I've found that the general consensus is that the poor quality of protein found in the Protein Shots is the problem.

I have half a dozen of them in my produce drawer that I never used. I couldn't stomach the taste of them after the first couple of weeks of using them. My mother has a band, and her nutritionist approves of them as well, and she still uses them at almost 2 years post-op.

Pretty much, there are better sources of protein available. Whey and soy seem to be the most beneficial, and both have higher quality than the collagen protein.

OK, got'cha now. I had a particularly difficult digestive day. I can't say for sure, but I think a lot of the excessive gas, bloat and diarrha was due to the Body Fortress whey Protein Shots I consumed. Every day before today I've been fine, well relatively fine considering the time post-op. This is the only ingredient added, so I'll have to assume it's the culprit. Think I'll lay off the Jell-O too considering the source of that stuff.

They always gave me gas as well with the band. I tried to get one down after my revision thinking it would help with calorie intake and at least some Protein, but it made me so nauseated within 2 sips.

hi AJW

i was one of the unlucky ones that woke up with sholder pain and diaphram pain in recovery.... it totally sux...was in recovery for 4-5 hours with just as many shots of morphine!!! my mum was out of her head worried when they told her that i was going to be in recovery for longer than expected with pain related issues! didnt end up with a drain....probably the reason for gas being stuck!!!!

I have to admit i too feel really slugish and tired at day 7 post op so im feeling your pain.... and as for the chicken broth!!!!! never again!!!!!!!

i really hope we feel better soon.

I think the drain was really useful. When you have a Tummy Tuck you'll have a drain for a week, I've heard. It allows all those fluids to come out - a necessary evil. I'm wondering how long it takes for the incision left by the drain to heal up, 10 days maybe?

Did you have a morphine spinal during surgery? Although I thought it odd at the time, I think that really is the ticket to controling the surgery pain right afterward.

I had a bad day yesterday due to gas and non-stop diarrha. Hope today is better for us both.

Hi, AJW, I tried to see/meet you when I was there for my check up and Yolanda said you were in surgery then. She said she would tell you hi for me. Hope she did. I am glad you are home and doing as well as can be. Good luck on your liquid diet and recoup. Take it easy. Keep us posted as you feel up to it. carol

Hi Carol!

Yes, Yolanda told me that you were looking for me. I went into surgery at 11:30AM and didn't come out of recovery until 4:00 PM, so it was a long time. Thanks so much for checking on me; sorry I wasn't available to say hi.

Doing OK; yesterday was a crappy day, hope today is better. One step at a time.

I am 2 months out from surgery and still have difficulty swallowing most pills. I can take my BC with no problem and I am able to get down a 40 mg Nexium (not mups) down okay - anything larger than that I have to cut up in 2-4 pieces in order to get them down or they just get stuck and come right back up. I am taking Gummy Vitamins as I can chew them up and they go down easy.

With regard to the drain incision - it should close up within 10-14 days - I think mine took about 7-10. However, that only means it is closed up, not that the incision is gone -- it is still the most noticeable scar I have.

You can grind your big Vitamins and put in smallest amount of food and take that way, something like applesauce.

Now silly question: As far as food phases, etc., is day 1 the day of surgery or the day after surgery for counting purposes?

The day after surgery is Day 1 for counting purposes - the day you get to put something in your new stomach - like that lovely blue dyed apple juice!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
