Same thing happened to me! I am trying to put some variety into my limited diet selections and got a little too over zealous! I immediately went from a resting heart beat of 80 to a racing 125 in 5 minutes! It was so uncomfortable and scary feeling. I wrote Gaby at Dr. A's office. This is what she sent back in case this happens to you! (Note: she wrote back at 10PM...not that's service!)

Re: NEW SYMPTOM-RAPID HEART BEAT

Patients usually report a rapid heart beat when they are too full or feeling like something is stuck

the sensation usually last 30 min.

they report that if they drink Water the pain feels worse

Drink and eat slowly (most patients report being able to eat only small quantities of food 2 or 4 oz )

Try to recognize the feeling of fullness. Then stop eating at once. Indications of fullness may be:

A feeling of pressure or fullness in the center of your abdomen just below the rib cage.

Never eat and drink at the same time: This can cause you a lot of pain. The reduced capacity of the stomach will no longer permit to take in both: liquid and food at the same time.

It could be this....or it could be something else

The doctor suggest you have a check up with your local doctor just to make sure everything is fine

please keep us updated

Gaby

On the few occasions that I ate one bite too much, I did experience tachycardia (rapid heart rate) which was likely in response to the body trying to push the food down against a positive pressure. I'm slowly getting used to what a "new" normal portion is.

I need a good "routine" to get everything in on the same day...64oz of Water, 70 grams of protien, meds, food....seems too much for my system. If I take metformin (for Type II Diabetes) and drink a protien shake shortly after that, I can't function for about 2 hours!. I don't know what reacts with what. Keeping 30 minutes in between eating and drinking is hard too. Does anyone have a "good routine" for getting everything in and products that help make this easier?

I have a "detach and go" pill organizer for my Vitamins. I take today's with me in my purse. That's my only product. :cursing:

Mostly, I've just worked out routines through trial and error.

I find that starting the day with a Protein shake works really well for me and, on days when that doesn't happen, I'm always thrown off and struggling to get in my Protein.< /p>

I top my protein off at night with a protein hot chocolate most days too.

In between I mostly drink Water except when I work out. For workouts I have a special mix sports drink I've concocted which is designed to replace the calories I'm burning in the workout. If it's a super-intense or long one, I also gel or have a banana or protein muffin or Protein Bar in there somewhere.

My Snacks are protein based. So mostly FAGE yogurt, cheese sticks, nuts, cottage cheese, beef Jerky... stuff like that.

I take my Vitamins in the morning with my Protein Drink. That seems to work well for me.

I start my day with a 10 oz cup of tea on patio while husband has his coffee. I can't stand coffee post surgery. Then mid morning I have an 11 oz Premier Protein drink. I set out 3 16.9 oz bottles of Water and get those in during the day. That is 69 oz of fluids. That takes care of that without having to plan. It just is easy for me to get my fluids in using those 2 things as base.

The Protein Drink is 30 gm Protein and then I pick at an individual bag of Jerky throughout the day and that has 13 grams protein. Those 2 things give 43 grams of my 60 that I'm trying for.

This is what works for me. Good luck in finding a system that works for you. carol

I have heard so many people who say they like those premier Protein drinks. It's the only one I have ever tried that I think is really nasty.

It's funny how eveyone's tastes are different. I am glad I tried one at a friend's house before buying a case of them at costco. I love their Protein Bars though. I think they have too many calories for a Protein Bar. 300 calories. I have to only eat half of one.

I think muscle milk is way better even if the Protein grams aren't quite as much.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
