65-70 lbs to lose

Recommended Posts

:confused1:I plan on having WLS in a couple of months. I am having a really hard time chosing which surgery to have, band or sleeve. I am 5'4" and weigh 195 BMI 33. I will be private pay. I have noticed that several sleeve patients with BMI's similar to mine have passed their weight loss goal and is below their target weight. This scares me a little because the surgery is not reversible. If this happens with the band Fluid could be taken out. Also, I want to know what is the hardest thing to deal with NOW. Not the first few weeks post op, but once you are on a regular diet.

The hardest thing i deal with now is finding things to say negatively about the surgery. . there is nothing i could say badly . . . I am so content and happy that it's scarey at times! I love me for the first time in my life. . I can actually do things i couldn't do before and it makes me proud of myself. . good luck:biggrin0:

Christina,

Thank you for the reply. I have made the decision to wait on the sleeve and return to my original MD rather than Dr. Almanza. No negatives, just that I trusted my original MD and now all he is going to do is remove the lapband.

I will continue to research on the sleeve and maybe in the Spring, return to Mexico and get the sleeve if I have had no luck in losing the weight on my own.

I need to get emotionally ready. Too much grief in my Life right now to undertake the weightloss journey. But I do plan on keeping myself in check by not letting myself GAIN more than 5 lbs, hopefully.

Thanks again for your input,

sara

Hello Sara, I understand. This journey is not easy. It has a huge emotional side you still have to deal with. Ooh have I been moody. I'm 5wks out and I have my good days and my bad days. I am very happy with the weight loss part. Im still having a hard time with enjoying cook outs and B-day parties and just enjoying going out to dinner with my husband. I get a little down at these times. They say it gets better. I guess time will tell. Well I hope eveything works out for you. I have A teenage daughter too and it is tuff.

Best wishes,

Christina

Christina,

Did you have the lapband or the sleeve ? Please keep in touch. Let me know how you are doing?

I get up at 2am tomorrow and fly from San francsico to San Diego, then the hospital driver picks me up at the airport. ...nervous.....about doing this alone, but I will be OK.

Oh yes, when I had the band I had a difficult time in the beginning while eating out socially. My small meal seemed to stick out like a sore thumb in comparison to everyone else was eating.

It was quite a learning experience and I think it takes some time and patience to change your lifelong eating patterns. So, go easy on yourself.

Take Care,

sara

Thanks Sara, I have the sleeve. At first I was going to get the band and then I started reading all the problems people were having. I was like hell no! When I was in Mexico there was a girl who only had hers for six months and she had problems with the port already. Just six months out and she was having a revision. Anyways please keep in touch. Maybe if you start to gain weight you can do the pre-op diet off and on. Have a safe trip.

Would like to loose at least 60 pounds - would love to weigh 64 kilos (140 pounds). But everything under 70 kg would be paradise!

Kimmyegg;

Who is telling you that you are not "big" enough? Insurance or family/friends?

I was "only" a 33.1 BMI and had comorbidity issues, but still insurance would not pay so I self paid. A lot of money but worth EVERY single dollar. I have no regrets and would make the same choice today.

Kimmyegg, people were telling me the same. I started with a BMI of 34/35, I had to go abroad and pay everything on my own but I am SO happy I did it. My family was annoying and against it but they have now realized that I made the best choice for my health. I have 81 lbs to lose altogether, I could have never done it on my own.

I started with 209 lbs and have to reach 128 (more or less, I count in kgs, so I was 95 and want to be 58). I am 166cm or 5'4''.

I can tell you that I am really happy with the choice I made.

I'm having a really hard time. I had my surgery May 2010 and I have only lost 40 lbs. I still want to loose at least another 40lbs but I'm having trouble sticking to my diet. I'm working out, but only 2x a week now but I'm doing a lot of yard work too. There is literally nothing that I can't eat. I was really expecting a lot more from my surgery other than just volume control, I thought I wouldn't be hungry and that I wouldn't tolerate sweets. I'm not gaining a lot of weight maybe a couple of pounds, but then It comes off. But I haven't lost any more since October. It just seems that with as little as I'm eating, and a lot less than I used to, I don't understand why I'm not loosing some, even a pound a month would be something. It's been a long plateau! Any ideas??? HELP!!

I haven't met a stall yet but in this case people normally tell you to be sure you track your food every single day. Count your calories. Do you see a nutritionist on a reguar basis?

Do you know how many calories you consume every day?

Do you know what food kills your diet? I know that, no matter how many calories I eat, if I eat carbs I can kiss my weight loss goodbye. That's me, I know it's different for everyone.

Try to remember how motivated you were right after your surgery. You have a tool that will help you stick to a diet, but you have to be on a diet...

True true, I haven't been keeping track.... being totally honest, I think I stopped about when I stopped loosing any wt, it was going so slow it was just driving me crazy. But slow is better than 0 for sure. I have been trying to get back on track, signed up for a yoga class and paid money to make sure I went, saw a nutritionist who said I wasn't eating enough. I need to start logging everything again and need a kick in the bu........ ! Thanks for responding. :)

I have 65 pounds to lose. I am hopping that my skin will be kind to me and bounce back like youthful skin should. Ok... I'm 38 but I can dream.

I have about 70lbs total to lose.

I have lost about 15lbs so far...

Was sleeved April 8 and I'm learning about what I can tolerate...

I can put away a lot of fluids at this point. I know I really need to monitor my carb in take.

I signed up for the Myfitnesspal.com. I have been using this to tract what I'm consuming.

I'm really not consuming all that much being so close out of surgery but I want to get in the habit.

I'm afraid that the pounds will stop coming off...

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
