June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

I'm a June bandster--banded by Dr. Kuri 6/5/06 . . .I live in So Cal (Burbank), have lost 10 pounds. . .have a low BMI and 60 (those are my reasons for losing slowly. . . hope they are reasons and not excuses). First fill 7/20--don't feel "much" restriction--but I'm being very careful. I think another fill is in order soon.

Hey Deb --Welcome to the June crew!!

I too did not get much restriction from my first fill. I'm going in Thursday for my second fill. I hope it gives me more restriction.

And was I ever ready for it! I was banded 06/20/06 and just got my first fill on 08/01. I had been able to eat just about anything, but was really trying to eat healthy.

I found out I have the VG band. When I asked the doc he said "that stands for Very Good" lol! :biggrin1: He started with 3.5cc (under fluro) and nothing would go down, so he took out about .5cc.

I was a bit nervous about the fill needle. :faint: He doesn't use anything to numb the area. Geeeeezzzzzzzzz, he's good at it! I didn't feel a thing. He was in the first poke! I was worried about nothing. Silly me.:nervous

Well, I am to be on liquids for 2 days. Right now, I don't feel like I have any restriction. Some of you have said it sneeks up on ya in a few days, so I will see what happens.

I start some teacher inservice classes tomorrow, so I don't know how much I will get to visit and post during the school year. Junebies rock! It's great to hear how each of you are doing.

Terry :)

Thanks for your support June Band Crew. I can eat a lot--(after my first fill) but not a WHOLE lot. I am so suggestible! I just wish I knew if I needed more fill. The biggest thing is I get hungry and don't fill up all that fast. Still--I definitely am not eating what I once could. I think I'll get a fill in another couple weeks--why not? Well.....

Here I am at almost 6 weeks, planning a fill and eating a few more solids and actually getting pretty cocky thinking that I'm fairly unrestricted.

Boy have I been set straight! Just had my first PB and I sure as blazes don't want to go through that again. So it's back to liquids for a couple of days. Yikes.

By the way, welcome Deb.

Got my first fill on July 25. Doctor doesn't use fleourecent, and couldn't find my port. Took 1 1/2 hours before I was finally done, and had to do it standing up. Only added 1 1/2 cc, but told me my stomach was about the size of a golf ball. He wanted me to stay on liquids for 2-3 weeks. Before the fill I could eat about 1 1/2 cups of food. Now I've tried some mushies with good luck, but only about 1/4 cup. Liquids are 2 cups. I've also tried some real food, like soft chicken, hot dog, etc. Can't seem to get it down unless I use gravies, or sauces and grind it up. Hope it won't always be this way!!! Has anyone else had this problem since having a fill? From what I've read, most of you need more fill. Doc said he wasn't ever going to add anymore to my band!

The weight isn't coming off, as the mushies have not been low calorie. Was hoping for meat and cooked veggies in small quantities. But that's not happened yet.

suggestions?

Hola Junebie guys and gals :)

I had my second fill today; I had 1cc in a 4cc band from the first fill; she took out the 1cc and added 2cc and asked how I felt; I wasn't sure I knew what to feel for, so I stood and said, I guess I'm fine. She said "wait a few". So I did and suddenly I felt like I was full up to my throat. When I told her this, she said, "Lay down, some of that has to come out". Turns out my saliva had backed up! *eww* But definitely too tight. So long story short, I left with 1 1/2 cc's and feel restricted. Not to tight but definitely tighter. Hope this fill is "the one" :)

Water drinking? I am not doing so hot. I'll try again tomorrow. Night!

Good Morning-

Two quick things

1) I noticed Barbara has added her Christmas goal to her signature

Good idea for the folks wanting to participate- don't ya think? Its always good to write down the goals. makes them real

2) I just have to admit that I am eating Ice Cream all the time!! it just goes down so easily... I wanted to come clean. I am going to toss it all out in the trash tonight.

Now that I have restriction I really have to slow down and chew or I PB

and that is just not lady like

Anyone have any RNY friends? Have you noticed how skinny they are getting? Do you feel Jealous? I know I did the right thing for me but its still hard to hear the weight loss numbers!!

Hey PAB --I completely understand about the ice cream. I LOVE ice cream. I can't keep it in my house. But I refuse to not enjoy the "sweeter" things in life. I bought some of the Weight Watchers Fudge Bars (I think 110 calories). I will allow myself one every now and then. I have had one box in my freezer for 2 weeks. That is a huge accomplishment for me.

Going for my second fill tomorrow, yippeee!!!!! I hope I feel that way after the fill.

The fills are the trickest of this whole adventure. For one thing I think when we get a fill we need to give it a chance to take effect before we rush to get another. After a fill and after a PB we should definitely go on liquids for a few days. Not sure about OFPS doctor saying 2 weeks. I think that's a bit much. It should give the stomach a chance to calm down and us a chance to regroup before venturing out to real food.< /p>

Portion Control is important. I take a lunch plate and put my food on it. I don't eat more than what is laid out. Also, dry meats or things your scared to eat, should be eaten with some kind of lube. Things like fat free gravies, applesauce, ketchup, etc. to grease them for the ride down your throat.

When you are on liquids, and maybe some mushies, you won't know how much restriction you have. It isn't until you start to eat and fill the pouch that you should notice restriction.

If you get stuck don't drink. Drinking makes it worse and causes everything to back up and come out. It really doesn't help the piece that's stuck in most cases.

Ofps, I don't understand your doctor. How can he say he will never add any more to your band? As you lose weight the band will get looser or you may lose some of the saline. He will need to add to get restriction. It sounds like he really doesn't know much about the band. Getting fills under fluro is so much easier. They can tell right away if the barium is going down. I don't want fills any other way.

For the reunion - is there any direct way to get to sedona? I've only been there once and we were driving. A nice retreat like that sounds great, but we need an airport to make it easy.

I've heard from Tribon, cathgr8, warmmorningsun, and lucymann for the challenge. All of them except triban want in on the exchange. Get your goals into me by the 11th. I'll post them and we'll be off on our challenge.

I'm all for Sedona - you would have to fly to Phoenix and then drive to Sedona.

My second choice is Taos N.M. because I have never been there

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
