So for those of us on the Pre-Op diet how do you handle the chalky after taste of the Protein Shake? i was doing ok at home where i was able to get really cold Water to make the shake with and was able to drink them in a normal fashion.. but today 1st day at work i made the shake from the water fountain and it's not so cold.. finding i'm having to gulp it down just to get it done.. :(

It's probably cheaper to make your own, but if you don't have access to cold Water, maybe buying a premade one is better. I have not yet made a Protein shake. I always buy the pre made ones from the store. I think I will buy the powder to make them at home and then just use the premade ones to drink when I'm out and about.

But anyways, to answer your question, I usually chug mine anyways weather its warm or cold :/

It sounds like you have some nasty shakes. Are you allowed to try different ones? My Dr. had me on Chike. Granted, they aren't the best but certainly not chalky and I didn't mind drinking them at all. Also, Ensure is pretty tasty if that is even an option? Good luck with your liquid diet. :)

Arlene's famous recipe. I use chocolate (only) (Body Fortress). 8oz FF milk, 1 scoop of Protein Powder, a little Decaf instant coffee (kills the after taste), a little peppermint extract and lots of ice. I have a small Hamilton Beach blender (under $20. at Walmart or Target). The blender is also a drinking cup. It is very thick and tastes great. i have one every morning for Breakfast. When I get a fill I have 3-4 for 3 days after the fill.

Good luck.

Learn not to chug. You won't or shouldn't chug after your surgery. I, also, had Chike, and found them good. If you are out, maybe you wan to buy some pre-made shakes as others have said. Try not to chug, as I said, you don't want to get in the habit for after surgery! Karen

Chugging is not good...it means you should continue looking for a shake you can tolerate, or even like. This is also the time to learn how to sip like a Bandster. After you are banded with restriction, you likely will have to sip instead of chug.

I also add half a teaspoon of instant coffee to my chocolate shake, and recently I began adding a teaspoon of PB2, along with 8oz 1% milk and the Protein powder. It's sinfully delicious to me...I sip and savor it.

There are many different options for Protein shakes. Because you will from time to time need to go back on a liquid diet post op, it is best if you find a shake option you like or at least find it easy to tolerate.

I have always been a fan of EAS ready made. The chocolate is so creamy. They are about 4.99 at Walmart for a 4 pack. I don't drink shakes too much anymore because I don't want liquid calories. Its okay for you now and after surgery but I personally do not rely on shakes anymore.

Definitely do not chug. As for the shakes, have you thought about brining ice??i know I can swallow it if its warm. I try to have ice when I make mine. And I use a reuse able stainless steel coffee mug, everyone thinks I'm drinking a special drink from Starbucks, (it's actually from Starbucks too). Plus it does kinda make you feel like you have a "special" drink. Only you know it's Protein. If you have a fridge at work, put it in the freezer, if not fill a cooler and mix it up, and poof there ya go. Sometimes I make 2 at a time and run out the door, if I know I would be running and can't stop. And you can pack them up made up in a cooler too. Then I won't snack.< /p>

what awesome info :) i actually like the taste when it's really cooled. - right now i'm drinking the muscle milk vanilla. it was just today i was surprised at how the taste was so different with slightly warm Water. i think i will try it with Ice tomorrow as my morning shake wasn't a problem i mixed it before i left for work and drank it on my way to work instead of the coffee i usually have. Though the tips on not gulping are certainly something i will need to work on - slowing down is one of the hardest things for me.. but with 2ks to prep i should be a pro by the 19th

I like Premier Protein from sams. I still drink at least 1 a day so I can make sure I get my Proteins. also, it works great when I don't have time for breakfast and need something quick or finish a hard workout at the gym. 160 cal 3 fats 5 carbs 1 sugar and 30 proteins. And they are delicious.

PB2 is a powdered Peanut Butter that has 85% less fat than regular Peanut Butter. I add it to my Protein shakes to increase the Protein content slightly, and improve the taste significantly.

I purchase mine through Amazon. I am many months post op though, and don't believe a surgeon for someone who is completing their pre or post op diets would approve using it.

My doctor had me mix mine with milk to add 8 more grams of Protein. It really made a difference so you might check and see if you can do that.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
