One week post op today

Recommended Posts

Well just finished week two. Total lost is 13. (11 in week one' date=' and only 2 in week two). Guess the swelling has gone down because I'm getting hungry now. Still trying to figure out if I'm really hungry or just used to eating at certain times and just "think" I'm hungry. But when my stomach growls, I know I need to eat a little something.

Anyone else have a slow second week?[/quote']

Yes! I just finished week 2 also and have had minimal loss in week 2!, thought it was normal not to lose much in the first few weeks due to healing...I am down 15. One week pre op 5 pounds and 10 lbs in weeks 1 and 2. But most of the ten was in week one.

I am not hungry and have been eating approx 600-800 calories a day and walk everyday

I hope it kicks starts soon!

Glad to know it's not just me - I was afraid I was doing something wrong. But I've the same from some "old timers" on another forum, so I feel better about not losing in the second week. As long as I maintain until my fill in a couple of weeks, then hopefully the weight will begin to gradually drop off.

Guess I'm just anxious to see the "new" me in the mirror.

My loss in the second week was also minimal - 2lbs. The first week I lost 10!!! My total is 35lbs. Pre-op was four weeks long and I lost 23lbs. I'm halfway through week 3 post-op and not expecting much this week either. I'm very hungry and able to eat more each day. I'm booked for my first fill next Thursday and hoping to feel that restriction again.

I was banded August 1 (with no fill).

Im on week 3 & the gas & swelling has subsided.

Hunger has also returned.

I feel like im gonna regain the initial 10 i lost in the first recovering weeks.

My first fill is august 30th. I hear most people say they dont feel restriction until their 2nd and 3rd fills.

Makes me rethink the whole band thing. Probably shld hve gone with the Sleeve tht needs no filler at all.

Those patients begin losing from day 1.

I think I'm definitely going to need a few fills to feel restriction because its like I dont even have a band now. I was banded on 8/6. So hungry and can eat anything. Being on my first fill!!!! :)

I'm right there with you. Banded on August 5th and if not for the scars on my stomach I won't even know I had a band!! I've already gained two pounds back. First fill isn't until Sept 5th. Hopefully I'll feel restriction then, otherwise will probably seriously re-think the whole band thing.

I get first fill on sept 12th. I am not really hungry and am eating lightly and not losing since one and two week post op....hoping it will kick start sooner than later...hang in there it is too soon to throw in the towel, you are still in healing phase

I know I need to stay positive. Just a bit discouraging to see the scale start moving back up after failing on other diets.

It is disappointing but I'm reading from other bandsters on the forum that the real weight loss doesn't start until you find your sweet spot... Which for us is probably a number of fills away. Until then I think we just have to try and stay positive and remind ourselves that the best is yet to come!!

Don't put undue stress on yourself. There is a lot of head issues here with the process. Just stick to the program and hang on for the ride. I started losing from the get go, had one fill, two plateaus, and lost 165 pounds in 14 months. Stick to the plan, gets lots of exercise and log everything. I used MyFitnessPal because it really opened you eyes to what you were really eating and told you what you would weigh in five weeks if you kept on the program. It is self motivating and worked!

You will get there. The first couple months are the hardest because you are healing, swollen and can't work out as much.

Just wanted to say that "My Fitness Pal" is great. (and it's free). The scale is finally moving. Looks like I wasn't being as "good" as I thought I was until I started tracking the food/exercise everyday. I highly recommend it.

I will be 2 weeks post surgey on wed. I am still slight swollen but it's getting better. I've lost 18.8lbs since preop diet. It's an amazing feeling. I see a big difference In my face already. When I lay on my back I deff feel my port I'm hoping that's just bc I'm still a little swollen and not going to need to be re hidden later on.

Hey two weeks wednesday for me too...I have lost 12 kilo -24lb in total...but I had a hiccup and ended up back in hospital and didn't eat for 3 days...so my loss wasn't all that healthy...you go girls and if ok we can touch base as we go along to Celebrate our losses together :-)

I've decided to keep off the scale for the week and only weigh myself once a week for my own sanity! Down three up two! Urghhhh I thought this wasn't going to happen! I am just starting my 5th week and really eat very little.

Try using my fitness pal app. To log your food intake a little...good app I do have to say....although it keeps tellin me off for not eating enough... But I am going to use this to eat well, and then reward myself for being good :-) ..this way I know I'm on track still and not denying myself. My band will control my portion sizes which is what my problem was before being banded :-(. .. I have gone from being 20 stone 4lb too 17 stone 6 in under a month so far :-) and dropped 1 dress size so now fitting into 20 bottoms and 16 -18 tops...aim to be a 16 and 15 stone by Christmas...will be a happy bunny then :-) let me know how you get on hun x

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
