I've heard (through this forum) that we can never have soda (carbonated drinks).

I have had my band for seven almost 8 years now. I drink pop on occasion but not often as it greats a lot of extra gas bubbles. I have not been able to (sorry if it sounds gross) burp since I had the surgery. So anyways I find I get that nasty shoulder pain that you may have heard other people mention. I don't the pain is really worth but it can be done. Just something to keep in mind!! Good luck :)

I was told no soda ever...But you will hear others have gotten the ok.

Pre banding I drank nothing but diet Mt Dew, haven't had one since surgery and I am really happy I kicked that addiction.

Right away I noticed how much better me skin looks and feels.

Try really hard to put good things into your body. Soda offers you nothing.

Ask your dr what s/he recommends and follow that advice. It seems the majority of drs say no more soda or carbonated drinks. My dr says if it doesn't cause me discomfort, I can have it. I've noticed that if I drink a diet come from a can, I get more gas pressure than if I drank it from bottle or restaurant. I don't drink it regularly; just every now and then. However, I love carbonated Water and my dr is okay with that. Definitely go by your dr and/or nutritionist's guidelines!

I've had the band for 8 months and I've tried fizzy drinks and they just don't work for me. I feel uncomfortable almost straight away. So no Coke, lemonade or larger.

Also remember that sodas are empty calories anyway so even if you could drink then you shouldn't if you are serious about weight loss

A couple weeks ago I was so tired of Water and tea that I finally decided to have a coke zero. OMG! It burned all the way down my esophagus. I kept drinking for some stupid reason. A day later I had horrible heartburn. I don't know if it was caused by the soda, but I'm not doing that again.

I drink one a day and have never had any problems with pain, heartburn, or nausea. I was told by my doctor no more than one soda a day. It's a hard habit!!

I'm so surprised as to hearing some banders on here eating & drinking things that's not recommended. I have to ask, did your Dr. not instruct you on bad or accepted foods? I have been banded since 5/29 have lost 33 lbs and very very happy! But I have followed instructions and have only had one fill a 1/2cc in a 10cc band. No issue with being "stuck" no throwing up, I can't wait to get the next 30 some pounds off so I can reach my final weight of 135.

I kicked the evil "coke" habit about 6 mo before my surgery. I did love me some cokes tho. Just happy I no longer have the urge to have one.

I was told to limit soda, and never through a straw. I was told to pour the soda over ice and allow time for the carbonation to subside. Haven't had any issues at all.

But as others have said - ask YOUR doc and follow their guideline.

I was banded on 6/20 with a hiatal hernia repair. I tried to sip on my husbands diet coke and it didn't go well! I didn't want to drink it just try and see what happens. My nurse laughed when she asked me on my first follow up if I've tried something that didn't go well... I fessed up! Although I do drink from a straw because I can control my swallows better. I never drank from a straw and I always took too big of gulps! Funny thing is they gave me a straw at the hospital to use when taking my meds? Lol the nurse told me as long as I'm tolerating the straw I should be okay. Now, as my band gets filled things I use to tolerate might not work later! I started to seriously diet on May 1 and since then I've lost 37 pounds! I have 33 more to go to goal and I have not had my first fill yet! I'm off my BP meds and almost off my CPAP!

I was banded 5/21 and have a soda occasionally without a problem. I was hesitant to try for the first time based on what people have posted here but it went down smooth and didn't have any discomfort.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
