Any other September 2013 bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I do focus on Protein. I have a Protein Shake first thing in the morning then later I have a waffle for the Fiber and I usually put Peanut Butter on it for added protein. I can't eat much bread, but when I do I make sure that it is wheat and not white like my dr told me. There are still a few things that I have to have bread/buns for, but I am learning to eat less breads with them.

Thanks for caring Debbie. I don't know what I would do without everyone here.

You're welcome! We are all in this together!!

Yes whole wheat is ALWAYS better than white anything! You sound like you are doing well so far. Once you get the fill, you will notice you can't eat as much and bread of any kind is very hard to eat...at least it is for me. I'm finding I eat more eggs and cottage cheese now and I make or order any sandwich protein style. Carl's Jr will let you order any of their sandwiches this way...The grilled chicken or fish protein style is pretty good and just the sandwich alone is a full meal!

Protein style means serving in wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. No bread means it's much healthier and i worry less about obstruction.

I just found out that Carl's Jr does it. They have a sign up now that you can ask for any of their sandwiches protein style. Also, In-n-out burger does. The only reason I know this is because my daughter worked there during high school. I'm really not into fast food. Well, not until I met my boyfriend...lol

Does everyone lose their hair?

I understand it is common right after surgery from the anesthesia or later if you don't eat enough Protein. You should talk to your doctor about it if it is a concern.

Hi everyone! I went for my first fill today but after talking with my Dr - he seems to think I didn't need one. Down 18 pounds since surgery - September 26th. I have a few adjustments to make but I'm doing great according to him and my nurse. He says not to worry too much about the Protein and not to eat anything unless I am physically hungry. So I'm going to concentrate on making some changes and trying to exercise more! Hope all is good with everyone! :)

I had a fill yesterday. Didn't hurt at all! In fact I couldn't even feel it! But oh boy there is a difference in amount/speed of eating. Now I feel like I can barely eat much, so that 1/4 seems so reasonable. Gotta go slower and smaller bites for sure. I had 2ccs, now 3.5. Made it to my goal of 50 lbs lost too. Woot woot! Maybe I CAN do this after all!

Congratulations on your 1st fill! I had mine last week. I am starting to notice an increase in my appetite between meals now but not much as long as I drink my Water. You are doing great!!

I had my first fill about two weeks ago, and for the first time since being banded I am sooo hungry. Hopefully the next fill will help.

I had my first fill Friday. I had nothing in my band and he added 1.5 and I do not notice any restriction yet. Hopefully after my next fill I will notice it. I was able to eat a taco salad from Taco Bell for dinner tonight. I really only eat the Beans, meat, cheese, and sour cream, but still I ate all of that plus a little of the shell before I was satisified. Granted when I eat I do not get hungry for about 6 hours. I only ate Breakfast and dinner tonight.

I have also taken up jumping rope. I was pretty good at it when I was a child, but now OMG it is exhausting. I am working on being able to jump continously for 10 minutes at a moderate speed, but I can only do it for about a minute or so at a time then I have to take a break for about a minute.

Hi! I'm a September Bandster too. Banded on 9/17, first fill 10/28 of 5cc's. I'm wondering what are you eating during a typical day? I hardly eat a thing, and feel like there should be an approximate amount of calorie intake given in order to keep me healthy. My usual is a light smoothie with Protein for Breakfast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch (simply a very thin half of tortilla with minimal cheese), and one cup of mac and cheese for dinner. Not the best food choices, I know, but it's yummy, and I'm still losing. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Banded 9/17 at 258.5lbs.

Current weight: 228lbs.

Total loss: 30.5lbs.

Checking in ladies.... Down 35 since surgery and had my first fill on Monday. Doc decided to be aggressive and gave me 4cc. What a difference a fill can make. Didn't have any soreness from the fill and I can definitely tell things go down slower. Pretty good feeling knowing that things are working as they should.

I had my second fill yesterday which brought me up to a total of 7cc i'm hoping now that once i'm of the liquid and mushes that i will start to feel a lot more restriction and get that Portion Control that i've been looking for. The second fill couldn't have come any sooner as i was really on the verge of just letting it all go with the scale just staying steady.. getting the fill has given me new hope and once again i feel ready to tackle this weight loss of mine.. trick now is to stop weighing myself every day.. they where very happy with my progress so far and reminded me that slow and steady is really the best way to lose weight.

so here's a YEAH for all of us on this board..

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
