Start of week 2's pre-op diet and I AM STARVING!!!! I have already eaten everything allotted for the day except my last shake. I'm saving that for after my workout. What can I do??? I've already drunk a ton of Water.< /p>

Hot things helped fill me up. Maybe some hot tea or broth. Broth was especially satisfying--it was kind of reminiscent of actual food!

I will say that I haven't been doing any kind of vigorous workouts during my pre-op diet. I've done a bit of walking and normal light housework, but I didn't want to try any vigorous workouts because I didn't want to get too hungry and also because it's hard enough powering a 300+ lb body on less than 1,000 calories a day without adding an extra 300-500 calorie burn on top of it. It might be worth talking to your doctor to see what they're expecting for exercise during the pre-op diet. They might not be expecting you to work out, or might instruct you to eat a bit more to compensate.

What did people have for broths? I'm just having chicken from top ramen broth but it was a lot of sodium, so I'm nervous it might be bad for me? Another week and 2 days on this liquid diet. I don't like the Protein Shakes because I don't like sweet things. If I do one it's usually a pb one (I use PB2 powder so it doesnt have all the fat in it).

I'd love any other easy broth recipes!

I got some wonton Soup from the local chinese place....drained everything and the broth was delicious and actually tasted like something....finishing up day #14 of preop diet tomorrow...tired of Soups so the broth was a nice change today....

2 more days than surgery....seemed so far away a few months ago....glad its finally here!

Feeling at PEACE!

I was told not to use the broth from sound or ramen. I was allowed SF Popsicles and Jello. If you can have Popsicles eat them often, it was the only thing that took away my hunger.

My surgery was September 11th it went really good and wasn't too painful. Just remember as soon as you can get up and walk do it! Walking relieves a lot of the gas pain. Gas pain is where most of your pain comes from! Good luck!

I don't like the popsicles - I'm not a sweet eater and it's fall her now, so it's cold already! lol

Day 18 of the pre-op diet...just today and tomorrow until Band Day on September 19th!

I'm so ready to be banded and move forward. What I'm most looking forward to is eating more naturally--eating when I'm hungry, stopping when I'm full. The pre-op diet is so artificial and I'm always hungry or afraid of being hungry. I can't wait to just listen to my body again!

I'm driving myself crazy trying to get as much as I can done before the surgery. I've got one more grocery run to do tomorrow and I've got to pick up my brother at the airport (fingers crossed for no hiccups with his flight!). We had movers in today to rearrange a bunch of furniture. We moved our elliptical and treadmill into our loft so we have a nice, dedicated workout room now.

Wishing all the newly banded lots of success and sending lots of good thoughts out to everyone still preparing!

I did it! I'm a bandit! I was done on Saturday the 14th at about two in the afternoon. It's been four days and it's been an intense experience. Physically, I'm found well. My doctor is very conservative so I was in the hospital until Sunday afternoons I was in the ICU step-down unit with all his other patients so I had sequential

Compression devices that would squeeze my legs, a blood pressure cuff that went off every hour,an IV, cardiac leads all over my chest and the wonderful nurses that got me up every three hours to walk. It was not the restful night I had hoped! And if I can say what everyone else has- walk! Walk! Walk! I went to the doctor yesterday and I have been advanced to full liquids (yogurt, pudding, farina, etc) I have the port right next to my belly button and that's the spot that hurts. The doc thinks I had some reaction to something because the area is swollen and red. Doesn't think it's an infection but were keeping an eye on it. One of the nurses in the hospital told me that for the first week or so I should sip everything as of it were hot tea, slowly. That advice has worked very well I've never felt nauseated or anything. The gas pain even four days out is Horrible! It's constant and it hurts when I take a deep breath, when I get up, walking around. It kills. It doesn't help that I'm home alone with my two and a half year old and one year old today so I still have to lift them occasionally even though I shouldn't. I'm passing gas but I still feel this huge bubble right in my chest. It's making me tired and a little discouraged. The diet is going well though and I was nervous I'd be hungry all the time. I guess because of the surgery soreness and the gas my abdomen is pretty full. I'm passing gas as even went to the bathroom once (hey friends were all about sharing right?) but it's still exhausting. I'm feeling positive overall about the weight loss, but my body is pooped!

I'm so glad to hear from you! Glad you are doing well. Nice to know your doc is conservative. tee hee Makes me happy to hear I'll be in really capable hands. I'm a week and a half to go still. For the gas, are you taking Gas X? Does that help at all?

I wonder how they decide where to put the port? I've heard some people say it's near their belly buttons, under their boobs, on the side of the tummy, etc.

I had a really crappy day because although I took my shaker bottles with me to work, I forgot the powder. Crap. I had to buy muscle milk and then had my salad for lunch (but only could eat about half). Then when I came home I stole 3 raviolis out of my daughter's dinner. Terrible, I know. Then I go to make a shake here at home and find no milk. Gah!! I'll do better tomorrow.

PS Please be careful and put those babies down while you are healing!

I am scheduled for 9/26 and very excited! Feeling a tad anxious too! Just trying to get everything I need before hand. I have seen a lot of people on a clear liquid diet before surgery but I've been instructed to do Sugar Busters 2 weeks prior. It's interesting to see the differences in pre op requirements. Good luck to all! I will take any advice anyone has as well! Thanks!

how's the pre-op diet going?

You have to stay strong and keep your eye on the goal. I am drinking chike shakes that leave me with no hunger and living on crystal light. 1 more day for me and I will be banded. As always keep your eye on the prize.

Talk to your doctor about switching to a high Protein Shake. I am doing the Chike ilikechike.com and I have no hunger. I have lost 21 lbs in one week and I have to force myself to drink them because I am always full.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
