FINALLY!! Sept 19th (3 days after my 54th birthday). I started the pre-op for ins back in Oct of last year. Had my last weigh in on Apr 16 and was so excited to have it all done. Took to my surgeons office and was told 2 days later that my insurance did not cover. It was an exclusion to my policy. OMG. My world came crashing down!! But, all is great now. Because of my neighbor, who also had this done, mentioned checking with my other insurance, and I found out this past Wednesday, they are going to cover the surgery.

Are you telling people? l

I have only told who needs to know (my kids only because they went to a couple appts with me and my Aunt- she is my ride home!)

No one else would be supportive of any type of WLS. I don't want nor need their negative comments! All they need to know is I am eating heavier and exercising which will be the truth and they can just sit there with their jaws dropped watching my transformation!

Congrats on your weight loss so far!

I thought about not saying anything. But, my sister had gp about 20 years ago and one of my dear friends here in AZ had gp as well. So I knew the people who mattered would support me. I am here if you need support.

Thanks so much! I can't wait! It's been difficult lately because my husband is being very unsupportive, and I haven't wanted to tell too many people. But I know I'm doing what I need to do to get healthy and be here for my three kids.

When do you start your preop?

Hey there! My name is Jessica, I am scheduled for my egd (upper gi) sep 3rd and am scheduled to get banded on September 4th which is 3 days before my 32nd bday. Best gift I could give myself! I live in phoenix, az. I am going to start my pre-op diet on Monday- my BMI is 46! In a perfect world I would hope to lose 150lbs lol but realistically I'd be thrilled with 80-100lbs of loss, really ANY loss is progress in my mind. :) I can't wait

I was suppose to do a trial run from the 9-19 because I gained on my last weigh in and they want me back to my fist weigh in by Aug 19( last Ins required weigh in) I have been doing very poorly :( I hope they will still allow me to get the band *fingers crossed*

My surgery is penciled for Sept 27 and I will have a 3wk pre op of all goes well I am hoping to bump the surgery up by a week

So just got back from my last Ins required weigh in and I GOT THE GREEN LIGHT!

I am so excited I didn't completely screw myself with being bad with the trial run pre op diet! I promise I won't mess around with the actual pre op diet! :)

Now just "patiently" waiting for the Ins to approve me and confirm my surgery date of Sept 27!

I am a September bander , and Barring any issues with the cardiologist Wednesday the 21 my surgery is penciled in for September 6th. I have my pre op appointment the 30th, and this that is when I would start my pre op diet. I'm so excited, I also was approved thru insurance, which makes me even happier.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
