August 6th...time for a healthy change. anyone else new in august?

Recommended Posts

I called the office this morning and they said it was due to the port being attached to the muscle. It comes and goes, but it is real sharp, sometimes burning. Dr. Said if it worsens to call. I was curious if it was a common symptom. I just hope it doesn't last a long time.

Day 8 of a two week Protein Shake diet and I went to go get an EGD. My throat hurts so bad that I can't even think about swallowing any type of shake. Thank goodness I have a hernia so insurance will pay for some of this. Next move is lap band on the 22nd. I am down 8 lbs. yay!!

I also went to get my EGD and also have a hernia, could you explain what you mean by your insurance play some of this? i would LOVE for my insurance to pay more! haha

Apparently my hernia is only mild, but i also have inflammation in my stomach! who knew! How do they plan to deal with yours! have a great day! keep me posted!

Congrats! I'm glad you finally have a date. I was banded a week and half ago and am feeling great. The first seven days were hard (the gas pains in my shoulder were wicked) but it does get easier and I'm sooo happy I've done it.

Do you think i'll be back in commission after 5 days? unfortunately my life is requiring me to return, rather i want to or not!!!

My insurance will not pay because my bmi is less than 40. They will pay for hernia repair so I pay for the band but not entire procedure. A little less money out of pocket

I'm sure it will pass. Maybe a hot pack and some ibuprofen would help?

I kept feeling better each day but I know my doctor said no lifting over five pounds. Three days after my surgery I had to go get recertified for my job and the class was four hours long. I mean if your talking about going back to work I say it depends on the kind of work you do. If you have an office job it should be ok you may just have to get up and stretch some.

I think everyone is different but just take it easy the 5 days you are off.

What a night at the hospital. I had the lap band surgery & a hernia repair. Very sore. However; I'm on cloud nine since I have had this done. Can't wait to get home! Thank you for the well wishes ; )

I was just banded on the 14th and I must say that I am not feeling too bad! Walking does help. I did have the pain in my left shoulder but it was mild...most of my pain is around my port. It is true what they say that every day gets better. Again, I started at 317. I weighed myself yesterday and I am currently at 288...very proud of myself.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
