Tight in morning ?

Recommended Posts

So, many have said they feel "tighter" in the morning. I never quite understood what this meant. I'm relatively new to being banded and have had 3 small fills. I can eat Breakfast without any issues.

However, I have noticed lately (2-3 fill, maybe?) that I wake up hungry and also a mild heartburn feeling. The heartburn doesn't last, and I'm lucky not to suffer from it regularly.

So, would you consider this the "tight" feeling many of you report? Just curious how you describe it.

TIA!

Everyone is a bit different but many, myself included, after being sufficiently restricted, find that they feel tighter and can eat less or have a more restricted choice of foods early in their day. Tissues have a tendency to be firm and tighter at the start of the day. This holds true for many for all tissues - if I look in the mirror in the morning I have more firm muscle tone than later in the day.

It's just important to be certain you are getting good nutrition and don't skip eating because you are tighter than the rest of the day. That's one reason why Protein shakes can be a good morning nutrition option...

For me, I'd say no. I used to have that small heartburn feeling and eating made it go away. I was just hungry.

I had another fill about 2 months ago and it took a month or so before it seemed to kick in. Now, I'm tight in the morning. That means, I have to be careful what I eat. I have to eat very small bites, eat very slowly(slower than dinner) and chew chew chew. Some people drink hot fluids to loosen up the stoma but nothing really works for me so I just try to follow the rules. If I don't, food can get stuck for 15-30 minutes and I end up tossing out what's remaining of my bfast.

Feeling tight means that some foods or liquids have a difficult time traveling through the pouch and stoma.

Thanks tmf! That's pretty much what I figured; I didn't really think I'd be tight until i'm pretty much in my green zone - although we all know how finicky the band can be!

I got banded 5/28 and surgeon put 1.5cc in at surgery. I felt restriction the first few weeks and lost 15 lbs (yay!). Then I went back to work and started feeling less restriction. I ate lunch out daily and tried to be careful. I didn't gain or lose anything the last 3 weeks. I got my first post surgery fill yesterday. I didn't feel any different. I stuck to liquids and by this afternoon I was STARVING. So, I went back to my surgeon a few hours ago and after some begging he gave me another fill. I forgot to ask how much, but I do feel different now. How do you know when the amount of fill is "right?"

When a cup of food keeps you satisfied for 3-5 hours is how I gauge it.

Be careful with getting fills so quickly. One of the biggest hurdles we all have to overcome is learning how to eat with the band. It can take months to re-educate our minds. Good luck.

I have not been able to eat first thing in the morning for over 2 years now...I do have my morning coffee, followed by a home made high Protein smoothie, and I have to take that real slow, small sips....I'm good to go all day, usually little or no lunch!

Hunger or cravings are never an issue for me....

Heartburn - reflux was an issue for me and something I had to figure out on my own...I found I am more sensitive to spicy foods, and I never eat anything past 7pm.....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
