Weight gain - need help

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am 56 years old and had lap band surgery in 2009 and lost 65 lbs. Over the past couple of years, I have had excessive stress in my life and have gained 25+ lbs back.

I feel like I am eating pre lap band, I don't seem to have any control. My weight seemed to be stable until late last year when I started having bad reflux. Long story short....my band was too tight and Fluid was removed. Some was put back in a few months ago, but I am still gaining weight because I am eating too much.

I can't seem to get myself back on track and I am getting panicky about it. My clothes don't fit, I just had to buy some clothes in a bigger size. I feel like I am going to lose this battle.

Has this happened to anyone? Any advice on how to get myself back on track?

Help! and thanks.

Mary

I agree with the poster above me, go back to your surgeon and nutritionist and ask for help.

I would also start religiously tracking calories and measuring your food. This way you can monitor your calorie intake and also be certain you're not over-eating. Plus, seeing it there written down helps to hold you accountable, too.

It's not easy but you can totally do this. You already lost 65 pounds (which is awesome!) you just have to get your heart and head back into it.

Best wishes.

Mary - I would add that you don't have to make every change all at once... take baby steps. Start with changing something you know you are doing "wrong" like eliminating a specific food or late night snack...or add in something right like a walk after dinner...

Too much change at once can be frustrating so be gentle with yourself, but push yourself too!

Love what you said LapBandAnna,(also love the name!)Baby steps. We can be too hard on ourselves. Right now, this week, I will break away from the tempting frozen coffee drinks that are so popular now! I do not really need that dunkin donuts frozen drink!do I?

Great goal! Mine is late night snacking...it's habitual...not hunger.

First of all I think you should be asking yourself why it is that you lost your motivation to look good and to feel good. You were doing so well. Are you feeling deprived in some way? Are you looking to stroke yourself again with food like you used to do? Is something hurting, depressing, frustrating you? Are you feeling powerless and alone? What is going on? Allow yourself to scream, yell, cry, curse out loud and get it out of your system!!! Don't you realize that is how you got in trouble the first time? Help yourself, help yourself, help yourself!! Don't let this happen - stop yourself. I will be praying for you and for me, since I just went through this also and I used what I just said to you to talk myself out of my danger zone. Don't give up on yourself. Love yourself.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
