Hi guys! I've been a lurker on here for a few months, but now that I am about 2 weeks away from my surgery (scheduled for May 21st), I decided to take the leap to become an official member of this forum!

I'm in late my 20s and towering over 230 lbs. I was approved for surgery on the first try (partially due to my actual weight, but my hormone imbalance, G.E.R.D., and hiatal hernia definitely played a role in the approval as well... woohoo!)

My relationship with food has completely catapulted in the last few years. I started seeing a therapist on-and-off for about 8 months now in hopes of getting to the bottom of my food addiction... It's a constant battle, but I'm learning so much and in the process, tweaking my eating habits so getting this surgery will be easier on my body and mind.

Getting banded was never even a thought before last summer. I wouldn't have even been eligible because the bulk of my weight gain has occurred in the last 2 years. I know that this is only the beginning of my journey, and there won't be an easy road to take, but I'm ready to get behind the wheel!

May 7th will be the first day of my liquid diet leading up to my surgery. I've been saying good bye to all of my favorite foods this entire weekend... Soda, pizza, fries, bread, potato chips, Pasta... Parting is such sweet sorrow, but I think once I start to hopefully lose weight, it won't even matter (right?!)

So, in a nutshell, that's where I am in my life right now. I'm excited and eager but also VERY scared and nervous. I hope that I can seek comfort and advice from the members of this community, and I will try my best to to do the same for others!

The first week of your liquid diet is the hardest one. Just make sure you have your Protein Shakes and sugar free Snacks and you will be ok. I lost 20 pounds before I had my surgery and another 10 after. I was banded on April 17th.

Wow! That's very reassuring. I haven't told too many people about the surgery, but the first thing everyone asks is if the liquid diet makes you already lose so much, what's the point in getting banded? My answer is always that the band will control the weight loss and keep my food intake consistent.

I go for my first fill tomorrow and I will see if I'm continued to loose weight. Lap band is all about control. Which I didn't have with my food portions!!!!!

oh the glory of the 2 week liquid diet, oh how I remember! The first 4 to 5 days are pure H*&^! It's awful, your body is detoxing from carbs and sugar and you want so bad to eat but if you can make it thru those first few days you've got it made, easy peasy. Make sure your Protein shakes are packed with Protein, sf Jello, sf popsicles, broth or at least that's what I was allowed. I'm excited for ya'll, and your journey begins...

You can do this! We are here for you.

Donna

best of luck to you..i wish you all the best

its hard on the pre op but it does get easier as the days pass...drink alot and stay as positive as you can especially when going gets tough and it will..so keep the mental upbeat attitude you have

best thing i ever done (aside from marrying my hub and having a great son)

My EGD test is on the 16th followed by a mandatory patient education class.

I'm so happy there are others with the same surgery date as me. I feel more at ease :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
