HELP! It's only day 6!

Recommended Posts

I just need to vent to know everything will be ok...So I just broke down, started crying to my mom, I am having a hard time literally drinking liquids, my stomach has "woken up" and my hunger pain is making my healing process very uncomfortable. She reminded me that this is what I signed up for and I 100% agree, however, I feel like this part is torture and how am I going to make it another week, let alone until I reach my green zone ? I know most of it is mental with cravings but these hunger pains are real and I'm going to have another mental breakdown if I don't eat my mush soon! Please any input would be appreciated on what liquids would help me stay Fuller longer besides Protein Shakes :)

I vent from time to time and I am on my 10th day post op. It seems the more I vent the better it gets, so that's ok. One thing I do to keep my mind clear I would sip coffee it sometimes keep me from getting hungery. I've learned the more you exercise it sometimes take away the hunger too. I really don't no what to tell you exactly, just keep yourself occupied...Good Luck...you will do fine

Day 6 so I assume you are still on Clear Liquids. Once you move on to full liquids, it does get a bit easier. I purchased a bunch of different flavored teas, but honestly I didn't like the taste of tea, so it didn't matter what flavor, they still have that subtle tea taste, so they are all still sitting in my cabinet. You can crunch on ice if you feel the need to eat something. Also, drinking lots and lots of Water is helpful to avoid the hunger pains.

Good luck! You can do this. :)

How much longer until you can progress to the next phase and what is the next phase for you (every doctor is different)?

I agree with keeping busy. Read, walk, etc... anything to occupy your mind. I give you credit for sticking to the plan though and not giving in to your temptation. That will really help your healing process.

How exciting it is to start a new chapter in our lives. The anticipation of loosing this fat! And then.....

Well you know surgery, pain, the unknown, the questions, the BIG question..............HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE? I want to be skinny already!!!

The anticipation can be a big build up and that is ok. But you have to be sure that you continue to think positively about the step that you took....during those post-op painful days.....during the days when you literally feel so hungry that you will swear your stomach is eating itself...............even on the days or weeks that maybe the weight loss isn't going as fast as you thought it would or wanted to believe.

My doctor told me that the average weightloss would be around 40 pounds. I even read it in the information. However I convinced myself that I COULD DO MUCH BETTER!

Debbie, your post is encouraging, I know I need to stay positive, we all do in order to make it work...and actually venting to people that have gone already gone through the same thing or are currently going through it does make me feel better that I an not alone...like I know I'm not alone, but sometimes us as humans the reassurance helps us get through it...this post did help A lot! I spread out my Protein Shake today rather than drinking it back to back every half hour and that seems to be helping along with a small coffee I bought at Dunkin, don't worry i used a little skim and 2 Splenda!! :) Thanks everyone!

I feel for you being on all liquids for that period of time, so amazing to me how different each doctors restrictions are. Only did 3 days of clear liquids then on to pureed which is where I am now. Finding myself wanting a good piece of cheese of all things. Have a friend who warned me going in that one of the major battles with the surgery and recovery is mind games. Finding that to be true right now. That's what is so great about this site . So many to help you get through it and on to success.

I'm on day 6 also, but I'm on full liquids until Wednesday. The main thing I'm missing is drinking at a normal pace. I want to drink larger amounts because I feel I'm still thirsty. Some tricks I done to help me feel I'm eating is to drink veggie juice warm and it Tastes like Tomato Soup. I've been eating ALOT of Popsicles and chicken broth. These things have definitely been helping me get through the past few days. Also, staying busy is a way to keep your mind off of things. Hopefully, these things can help you out some. It will get better :)

Glad today is going better for you. You will find ways to work through it and certainly venting to fellow bandsters can help as well. For now, try to take it one day at a time. Today you are one day closer to moving to the next phase. :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
