So, I know the answer to this ultimately is to ask my surgeon and/or nutritionist, but here goes.

I'm getting banded on Wednesday (and getting nervous). Trying to get everything I need in the house, food-wise and otherwise, so I can just rest and heal.

Story is, my doc requires a clear liquid diet "in the hospital only," and I'm outpatient, so it pretty much doesn't even apply to me. Then on to Stage II, which they describe as "Soft/Mushy and/or Pureed" for 4 to 6 weeks before solid foods. Along with the usual cottage cheese, yogurt, smooth/blended Soups, etc., my mushy stage includes things like scrambled eggs, tuna salad with light mayo, and even flaky white fish like tilapia and turkey burgers (!) chew, chew, chew... lol.

I will talk to my doc to confirm this, and will be sensible by having the softer, easier stuff for a bit (will get his recc on how long) before I move to the more challenging stuff, since this stage seems pretty wide-reaching. But I'm wondering if anyone else has been spared post-op liquids phase. Thoughts?

P.S. I am finishing (what I see as) a reasonably strict 2-week pre-op diet of Protein Shakes only (and it was no walk in the park). Lost 24 pounds on it though!

That is unusual. Most docs require a few days of Clear Liquids and then 3-14 days of liquids followed by mushies. My doc required 4 days liquids(never clear), then 4 days of mushies. Better double check those orders?

I just had my preop visit. My orders are:

10 days preop. Completely Clear Liquids except Protein shakes.

Post op 4 weeks clear liquids but a few more things added that are acceptable.

5 to 8 weeks mushies.

After that solids.

He wants to make sure there is no chance of slippage

Wow - mine was pre-op 2 Protein Shakes plus 1 meal of 3- 4 oz lean Protein, 1 cup veg, 1 cup fruit for 2 weeks and then post-op 1st week clear liquids, second week thicker liquids, 3rd week soft/mushy foods, 4th week solid foods.

That does seem strange.

I was on a 4 week plan.

Week 1 - clear liquids

Week 2 - full fluids

Week 3 - mushie foods

Week 4 - solid foods

I would clarify with your doctor / nutritionist that you do not start "soft" foods too soon.

Good luck.

My post op diet was the same. No liquid diet. It seems to be doing fine but I've got an appt today so I guess we'll find out.

Like everyone said before I would double check with your doc to make sure you dont start mushies too soon. I got banded on Thursday (1/24) and was told clear liquids for 48 hours after op. Then for the rest of the first week liquids only, but could include Protein Shakes. Im still gonna verify with my own doc just to make sure that i can start yogurts and mushies on week 2. Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
