My surgeon is giving me the option of picking my band and I have researched it but I still don't know. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have to pick by the 16th. My surgery is feb 5 and I am so excited but nervous at the same time!!!!

My surgeon is a bariatric center of excellence doctor and he only uses advanced playform because of the even 360 filling.

Given the choice, I'd get a Realize band over an Allergan band. The reason being is Allergan is trying to sell off their Lap Band business. I'm not sure how that will effect patients with the Allergan band (like me!) however it seems to me Realize is the more stable choice.

Again, just my opinion.

Lol, I had that same choice and asked my Dr " what do I know". He told me that the Allergan Lapband has more restriction from the get go than Realize, so I picked Allergan b/c I'm in a hurry to get knee replacement. But like Missy said, Allergan just recently went up for sale, so I don't know how that will change things.

I'd talk to surgeon about the company selling out and get his opinion.

Good luck!

My sister works for Allergan in Goleta (near Santa Barbara) and Yes its true that they will no longer do research on the band. However, they will continue to provide the bands they have in production for several years in the future. They will sell the band to another company who will continue to support Allergan's band.

My Allergan band is a 14cc with Omniform. It was in place on Aug 6 and I've had NO issues.

I have the realize band. Its a one size fits all (11-14cc) .. I was actually asked right before they were rolling me into surgery which one I want. Talk about last minute decisions. I remember just telling him whatever he felt was best at the time of surgery.

I had question about the allergan band? What are size difference between the two bands and what are the cc differences for the allergan band.

Allergan information on bands:

http://www.allergan....lapband_dfu.pdf

On page 9 it states 2 sizes a 10cc and the large band 14cc.

Maximum Fill Volume Capacities:

LAP-BAND AP® System Standard 10 cc

LAP-BAND AP® System Large 14 cc

Hope this helps somewhat. The pdf file reading is technical but you can understand all the studies that Allergan has completed on their Band.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
