Struggling with pre diet....surgery on Monday!!!

Recommended Posts

Merry Christmas Band Family!!!!! I have been struggling horrifically with my 2 week pre diet. The holiday rush and food has been hard to resist cravings or skipping meals not following diet. I guess if I was great at dieting I wouldn't need the band...huh?? Will it be easier to follow the diet once banded? Did I hurt myself or my future with the band by not getting this pre diet right?? :-/

I am no expert as I was just banded on the 19th. I will say that the band does not make the cravings stop. My brother cooked last night and I had a serious moment of weakness but I held it together. You are investing in your future so you are doing the right thing. I don't know if you can mess up the diet. You will see that drs orders are very different and I am not sure what your doctor would say/do. Stay strong. We are all in this together. ???…

the reson the dr puts us on a pre op diet is for several things according to my dr... Prepare liver for successful surgery by reducing the size, get you used to liquids if you are on them because usually post op is liquids only for awhile. Also you get used to the idea that food is fuel..you don't need it. You just need nutrition.

Not sure what type of diet you are on but my best advice for success is to follow the drs orders.

Just hang tough with the pre-op diet, you are almost there. Once you are banded, the first six weeks are for healing. It may go slow for a while. I know how anxious you are, I remember so well. Eat healthy, take your Vitamins, exercise and be good to yourself. It is soooooo worth it!

Yes! I promise you, it gets easier every month post op. i was banded in May but am close to my goal. Now it is not so much about "dieting" as it is about making better food choices, enjoying treats in moderation (I plan for 1 treat a week), being fit, and staying accountable. It's a learning curve. Hang in there. It's so rewarding when you see the hard work pay off!

I was banded Dec. 19. I had a 2 week pre op diet. I went off it once, 4 days before surgery. I was at a holiday party. Everything looked so delicious, especially after not eating for a week and a half. I took a small sized plate, took the healthiest food I could find at the party and ate. Oh man did it taste good. It wasn't much. 1 piece of chicken and a few bites of a side. As soon as I was done eating it I was back to my diet. I still lost 13 pounds on my pre op diet and my liver was healthy for surgery.

Now I am on liquid only (plus yogurt, sf ice pops pudding) post op diet for 2 weeks. Last night the Christmas Eve dinner looked delicious, but I had no desire to join in. Today, I wanted a piece of shrimp but it was so easy not to cave. I know I went through a surgery to lose weight and I don't want to mess that up. I am also not very hungry lately, maybe its the swelling from surgery, maybe it's being used to the low calorie no chewing diet. But it is soooo much easier. I see foods I love but it is easy to pass them up.

I struggled with my pre op diet and everything turned out good. And for me it has gotten a lot easier.

My doc didn't have me do a pre op diet at all...and I'm doing great. Hang in there and don't stress too much about it. Good luck with your surgery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
