Mislead? You Tell Me...

Recommended Posts

okay, to start off, i'm happy!!!!

i went to my "1st fill appointment" yesterday.

found out i have an AP-lapband.

found out my lapband takes a total of 14cc or 14ml.

found out my surgeon actually had filled my band with a wapping 5, i'm telling 5cc on the day of surgery!!!

the P.A. who checked my fill states all 5cc were there and that she would be adding 1cc making it a total of 6cc (i know you guys know math, i'm just so freaking excited).

she told me that i am down one pound from my f/u visit 2 weeks ago but looking at what i have been eating, she said i have stopped my metabolism because i am starving myself.

she says i need to eat more!!!! OMG big time!!!!

she says i really do need to start my exersicing though, to burn fatty abdy (lol)

so i have lost like 7in on my abdomen, 1in on my neck, and 3in on my hips!!!

she said that even though i only lost 1lb in 2 weeks according to the goal they placed for me, since the very first visit on Aug 17th, 2012, that i am down 43% of fat weight toward my goal weight!!!

so so exciting!

okay, why did i say mislead?

my doctor had adviced that he usually doesn't fill on the day of surgery...so here i was thinking it was all me, hahaha whatever, right?

i think he is sneaky or something, anyways i am glad. all this new info puts to rest much of my wrongful thinking.

like no wonder my head was not hungry but my stomache was rumbling, okay so i should eat more.

i don't know if this makes sense to anyone out there, but needless to say...

VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOU APPOINTMENTS!!

this is the way i see it, if i lost 9lbs the first 2 weeks and 1lb the next 2 weeks-(again i know you know your math)

that's 10lbs in one month, and the best thing is that those 10lbs will never be gain back!!!!

i mean if i slack off, and not follow the recommendations sure the pounds are just there waiting for a chance to jump back on my belly, but i'm determined.

hope everyone has a happy banded thanksgiving!

remember we can eat everything in the menu, just a smaller bite :)

Lee that is awesome!!! Just reading your post has me all excited for you! lol.. you now make me wonder if I actually have some fill in my band. My last appt with my surgeon I asked if he was going to put a fill in and he said no, he thinks its best if the body heals first.. So i was little bit disappointed, not much and then was thankful, rather heal up. So now, I mean I haven't lost any weight in 3 weeks.. well about a half a pound but i lost 28 lbs total, from the week before surgery and the week or so after... and i to keep thinking.. Wooo hooooo! this is all me! lol well mostly. Now I wonder!!

I get my first fill on weds.. I am going to ask. lol.. Good Luck on your journey!! Best wishes always! :)

that is so cool!!!

yes definetly, healing is the one priorty after surgery. i think i healed good cause i haven't had heartburn, PB, or much pain. i did have jitters yesterday, so my stick of string cheese felt stuck while i was at the doctors visit, good grief...but that's it.

i guess i was kinda nervously excited about my first fill day!!!!

best of luck to you too and happy thanksgiving!

My weight was stalled and the fellow banders told me I was not eating enough.

I increased my calories by 200 per day and started loosing again.

It does restart the metabolism.

So eat a little more and enjoy.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
