Im Losing It... Mentally

Recommended Posts

Ok, need support, and LOTS of it.

I am losing my mind about food. I'm on the preop diet, one week down, one to go. Banding Nov. 5.

My hubby held me while I cried like a little girl about not being able to just eat ... Insert foods here....

I just started my time of the month and I feel totally out of control all of a sudden, whereas I was fine the first week.

I can't even explain how strong the pull is.

But then I ate my Calcium supllement via five and it tasted like a tootsie roll and it calmed the beast. Weird right?

I think I would be fine if it wasn't that time of the month. But I feel like I'm losing my mind.

I need to hear all the reasons why this surgery is going to change YOUR life and why it's worth it for YOU.

It will be encouraging I think to hear why y'all are motivated right now.

Becky/26yrsold/Idaho. Band Date Nov. 5. 255/goal 165.

1) you are feeling normal feelings

2) I can't have my cake and eat it too! Or I don't get to be skinny confident and healthy AND eat like usually do.

3) banded 10/5 down 27 lbs.

4) I was thrown a lifeline out of misery. How can I possibly not embrace it?

What I did when I was preop and feeling crappy like you is I ATE THE COOKIE! One cookie not a whole batch. I didn't feel guilt I didn't beat myself up. I simply got on with it.

Someone posted once that the band works if you get out of its way and let it do its job. That struck a cord with me. I just took a deep breath and relaxed. Distracted myself and worked with the band. I don't say I CAN'T HAVE I say I can't have NOW.

you will do great! Believe in yourself and don't cut yourself short.

I had the same feeling while on the pre op diet. I did cheat and pig out one day and that actually helped. I still lost the weight and the surgery went fine so don't feel down , everything works out eventually :)

Thanks y'all. I cheat with extra veggies. I guess that's not as bad as pizza. But I know I'm going to raid the cupboards if I don't munch five more baby carrots than recommended. I think the most I've gone over is 100 cals. And always on veggies or Protein.

I just feel bad about it.

But then there is a part of me that is SO proud of myself for getting through my time of the month without bingeing like I always do. And for eating CARROTS instead of Pasta. Or cake. Etc.

Doing a bit better now.

The 2 weeks is rough for sure, YOU WILL GET THRU IT. When I got the desperation, I had boiled eggs, and small can's of chicken. HELPED SO MUCH. But, we had a bon fire we went to during that time frame, and I actually....licked a rib HAHA and it cured this beast of an appetite.

It' s hard, but so worth it. I lost 20 lbs during the 2 wks prep, and 35 total. Just keep the end goal in site. And, LICK something if ya need to ! LOL

GOOD LUCK pam

I had exactly the same feelings on day 5 and day 10 of my pre op and yes I did cheat. I have to admit I slept so well those nights after having some real food in my stomach. I had 1/2 cup of chili each time that my husband had frozen in portions for me for my pureed stage. He was away and I couldnt handle it.

It didnt affect my surgery at all.

The pre op diet will be a thing of the past soon and it will all be worth it.

Lots of hugs coming your way.

I can totally relate! I just had a mini breakdown last night and was crying to my husband all night about the same exact thing! I'm getting banded this Thursday (11/1) and really starting to get scared and wonder if it's the right decision. I think when you take something away that has been soothing you for so long (food), you feel empty with nothing to replace it. I've recently started meditating and doing breathing exercises and I've really been surprised at how much it is helping! I can't wait to lose some of this weight so that I can start doing yoga too!

Hang in there, it will get better soon!

I could have written this. It is day 6 for me and yesterday and today are so rough. I am on the strictest all liquid diet, and it is rough. I keep telling myself i can do this and i am about halfway done with the preop diet, but i would kill for some food. Not giving in, but ive cried. Lol

I am tearing up as I type this. I am on Day 7 of my pre-op diet of only Protein shakes, broth, and sf Popsicles. On top of it, I have a cold and it is that time of the month. I am not hungry but really just want to eat something!

And it looks like I am going to be in the house for a couple of days with the kids while my husband is at work....NJ is going to get walloped by Hurricane Sandy.

Losing my sanity!!

My daughter is my motivation. I want to be around to see her grow. Period. The Pre-Op diet was miserable for me but I just kept busy and tried my best to not think about it! I wish you the best of luck! That proud feeling that you get when you do something good, I got that when I finally made it through the pre op and surgery - amazing feeling!, now I'm 16 days out and I'm on mushies. I haven't really craved anything but a salad, LOL, ahh, I'd loveeeee a salad! We're all here for your support. =) You can do it! <3

I just want to tell y'all to hang in there. It got better for me.

I ate a Calcium supplement (viactive) and it cured my need to eat something sweet. It was amazing!!

To those of you only on liquids, it sounds like there might be some recipes for broth stuff that you can find on MY Fitness Pal and around here.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one having a rough time. No one told me about the rough diet "hump" halfway point!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
