Reality..I can't believe April 4, 2006, I will be banded

Recommended Posts

Today seems like the real excitement is starting! April 4, 2006, is my big day at Shady Grove Hospital located in Rockville, MD. I have met with the staff and they all are so kind and caring, which really relieved me from being afraid to be put to sleep. I shared my concern with anesthologist about my fears and we have a game plan, which is he will sedate me prior to surgery so once I go into the OR I won't panic and/or get nervous. That is such a relief to know they care that much to make sure my comfort is their top priority! GOODLUCK to ALL and especially to the April bandsters. Pray for me as I will pray for you all! Peace and Blessings!:)

I thought I would be a wreck going in for open heart surgery, but the anesthesiologist told me I wouldn't even remember and he is right....some Versed beforehand puts you in happy land long before you get to the OR. You don't have anything to worry about. These anesthesologists work wonderful magic. Good luck on your banding.

Angelu,

Think........VERSED. Great stuff and, unless you're allergic to it, it will put you in lala land long before you ever see the OR. Talk to the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist when he/she comes in and does your pre-op. Tell them that you're feeling anxious/nervous, etc and you'll not have another care in the world. Trust me. I didn't tell them I was nervous. I think it was part of their routine to give versed pre-op and shortly after they gave it to me, I don't remember a thing. I don't even remember saying good bye to my husband. Happy, Happy, Happy

BTW, you'll be banded on my one year bandiversary......Great Day. Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll do fine, then we can welcome you to the other side.

Angelu,

I know how you are feeling! When I got the hospital Monday morning my legs were shaking so bad I could barely walk in the door. The staff put me at ease and my experience has been great.

This was my first surgery EVER and I really didn't know how I would react. I remember them giving me the happy cocktail and being told that I would feel sooooooo good. I remember scooting over from the bed to the table and then having them put an oxygen mask over my face. That's the last thing I remember until they woke me in recovery.

The first thing I asked was "Am I banded? Did it really happen?" They just smiled and said "Yes, you breezed right through."

Mom told me that Dr. Smith said everything was textbook perfect and that it went exactly as he had planned.

I'll be thinking of you today as I sip my Water, Protein drinks, broth, and the lovely pain meds.

Audra

I need some help in building a ticking factory. My surgery went very well on April 4, 2006, and I have not had any gas, vomitting or nausea. I just have absolutely no appetite and can hardly get all the Protein in. Thanks for all the well wishes:)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
