Why Do I Feel Stuck In My Chest Instead Stomach

Recommended Posts

I am 7 months out and down 60 lbs I had to have a port revision 3 months in and now Bk up to 7cc I can eat stuff as long as small bites chew chew chew and very slow! Mostly have got to sipping super hot coffee after bites. If I don't have hot coffee feel the pain and pressure in my chest until food goes down. I don't understand, I just live wth it. Anybody else?

Wow... great weight loss! Congrats!

It shouldn't hurt to eat, sounds like mild stuck episodes. Perhaps you are a little too tight? Sometimes the tinest of unfills or fills for that matter can make a huge difference. Are you seeing your dr. anytime soon. You should discuss it with them but that is my guess.

I agree with TKW, you are probably a mite to tight. How long have you been having this problem? If you already had a revision, I would not want to have another because you are too tight! Call your surgeon's office. Karen

Also, as for the pain in your chest, the band is pretty high up on your stomach (which itself is higher up in your body than most realize) so it is normal to feel it behind your breastbone area when you do have a stuck moment.

You're feeling pain in your chest because the band isn't really on your stomach - it's on your lower esophagus, right on top of your tummy. That's why it hurts in your chest.

Good luck!

Or you might have a Hiatal hernia right under the breast bone.

You shouldn't be washing food down with coffee. By doing that you are defeating the band and not allowing it to work properly.

It is normal to feel the sensations in your chest as that is where your band sits.

Try taking even smaller bites, chewing more and waiting between bites. Do not flush the food through. It may be that your band is a little too tight in which case you may need some Fluid out or it may just be that you are not used to the different sensation of eating with a band. I think you should discuss this with your Dr.

So what do you do when food is stuck?

Pray it passes pretty quick. It can be agonizing. It isn't good to be throwing up as you can cause the band to slip; however, I had a couple stuck moments where that happened. My best advice aside from eating slow, waiting between bites, taking small bites and chew, chew, chew... is the second you feel some discomfort - stop eating and don't try to drink anything either. If it isn't bad it will pass. If you continue to eat thinking it was just that bite and you will be ok, piling more food on top may feel ok for a minute and then all of a sudden it hits you that you are very uncomfortable. Not that I am speaking from experience ~ ugh! I am doing much better now but it took some getting used to after my 2nd and most recent fill.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
