Congrats! Yes, walk walk walk. it doesn't have to be for a long time. just get in a few minutes then sit down, but do it as often as you can .. it will help with the gas in your belly. a heating pad on the shoulders helps too. if you have trouble walking, try hugging a pillow. for the sore throat ... try hot tea or broth.< /p>

It's totally normal to have a sore throat after surgery. They put a tube down your throat to help you breath during surgery. Mine hurt for about 3 days. Ice chips and popsicles seem to help!

Good luck!

I had my surgery on October 4,2012. i had a lower bmi so my dr. didn't put me on a pre-op diet. I came home 2 pounds heavier than what I did on my surgery. I was pretty bloated for 4 days. day 2 was pretty painful but my husband rubbed my back and I burped up a lot of air.Yesterday I walked for 1 1/2 miles and took my children to the park and all the gas is gone. I actually slept on my side last night for a few hours. I did take a natural sleep aide and slept well. Today the hunger is starting to kick in and I'm feeling sluggish. I've lost 5 pounds in all. i'm sipping on tea to fill my tummy. Hope this works. Its getting harder since I have to make foods and Snacks for my family. i drank a cup of coffee today for the first time since my surgery and definetly not doing that again. I think the coffee is whats making me hungry and tired. I would love to hear how your doing since our surgery is so close in date.

I heard that caffeine will make you hungry. I was banded 10/5. I have so much gas but have been doing a lot of walking too. Oh yeah, btw, I went back to work today.

The gas actually came back and comes and goes. I don't know how you went back to work. I am so tired today. My best friend had gastric bypass and she reccomended Isopure carb free protien drink. I went to the Vitamin Shoppe today and bought it. It doesn't look a protien drink rather like a sport drink. I got the blue one in a case. It has 40 grams of protien and is still a clear liquid so I will try it to see if i feel better. I get really bloated and look 5 months pregnant after i drink anything. I had a small miso Soup today and my tummy is huge. Anyone else have this problem? Oh and i also read coffee gives you sugar cravings and you crash. That explains the sweet tooth cravings I've had since drinking that darn cup.

Goal130,

Not sure how I went back to work either. The weekend promises to be a sleep feast. I'm going to check those out. Thanks!

I'm going to ask about coconut Water at my visit to dr next Monday. It is a great hydration tool, especially since you really have to watch your Water intake. Not sure if it is ok though for banders.

Like you my BMI wasn't that high so my doctor didn't make me do a pre-op diet i was just told not to eat before 12am the night before surgery. The only complication I had after surgery was a had a terrible sore throat for about 3 days. I haven't experience any gas pains (yet crossing my fingers), but I do have GasX on hand should I experience it. I do sometimes feel hungry as well because just like you I cook for my family, at first it bothered me a little bit because everything smelled soooo good and I do not like Jell-o and i hate chicken broth so I feel like I have nothing satisfying. I definitely would try to stay away from the coffee if I were you because that is definitely what's making you hungry.! I went to my first doctors appt yesterday to remove my steri strips and in 5 days I am down 12lbs so I'm definitely happy with that. Good Luck to you..and feel free to stay in touch so we can discuss our journey together. :D

And I call foul that you don't have any gas pain...no shoulder discomfort? Back ache? Nothing? It's so uncomfortable that I am jealous of you that you don't have any!

My doctor used glue too..I thought the little bandages he put over them were called steri strips? I may be wrong whoops!!! And no gas pain because when I walk i do some arm stretches. I do have discomfort almost a week later I still can't sleep in my bed I'm still sleeping in a recliner...boo!

Oh yeah! I'm walking all the time too. The random gas is all gone but I must be gulping or something because I always seem to have a trapped burp. I only took pain meds for 2 days after surgery then I was fine. I sleep in bed without issue but I'm just as comfi if not more on the recliner.

I had never even heard of glue so I was quite surprised to see it. Also it has a shine to it so some mornings I'm like " oh my god it's puss I'm gonna die" then I realize its just the glue. Talk about paranoia!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
