Low Bmi ....insurance Approval ....anyone In The Same Boat?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a BMI of 35.6 the doctor basically said not to lose any weight until approval. I have blue cross blue shield direct access. I do not have high bp,diabetes, sleep apnea. I do have high cholestrol and osteo arthritis. Did anyone who has a low BMI with no major health issues have any problems getting approved? The doctor does not want me to go to a lower BMI for now in case the insurance does not approve it. Any one else similar to this situation? I live in the beautiful state of NJ

I too was 35.4 with HBP and High cholestol...and BCBS of MN approved me! During the 6 month PCP and nutritionist visits i managed to lose 6 lbs in the 1st 3 months and then the next 3 months let the 6 lbs creep back on. I too was afraid if i feel under the 35 BMI i wouldn't get approved! I hate to say it but it was teh worst 6 months of my life (and my husband would agree)! I have been banded since the begining of July and it has sense been great! I am down about 30lbs including the 2 weeks of pre-op liquids!! Hang in there!!! it will happen!!

I'm afraid to call insurance company because I think they might red flag me if I ask to many questions. But as I'm am trying not to lose weight I'm stressing and I'm gaining. Feeling just terrible.

Just call and ask. Tell them u want to remain anonymous! It will put your mind at ease. I hate to say this because people will bring up insurance fraud but there is always ankle weights. I know they use the original consult weight. Then won't change the coverage if lose after approval before surgery.

I'm affraid I'm going to get denied because I have Medicaid. I've tried looking up their requirements but still can go either way. My bmi 63.2 and I have hypertension and high cholesterol. I'm so nervous and worried they will turn me away.

I have a BMI of 32 and I was told by my Dr that I didn't have a chance despite my arthritis and a back problem that necessitates me losing weight. Unfortunately I think that the 35 BMI cut off is pretty strict. I considered slumping, packing on a few extra pounds, but the truth is, I would have a big way to go to qualify because I'd have to gain a lot of weight PLUS my comorbids are not the ones that "impress" the insurance companies. Shame because back surgeries, spinal injections and pain management aint cheap either, you would think my insurance would want me skinny before the S%#& hits the fan medically

I had a Bmi of 35.5, but I had 2 co-morbids-hypertension and diabetes. 3 really, but insurance does not count high cholesterol. Seriously doubt you will be approved without at least 1, but stranger things have happened. Good luck.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
