ENCHILADA Soup :-)

I don't know if this sounds good to you or not but this soup got me through many post op days until I could eat solid food. I liked that it was thick and creamy' date=' full of flavor, and super fast and easy to make.

I can make as thick or liquid as I want by varying the ratio of Beans to sauce. I can make it as spicy or mild as I want, depending on what type of enchilada sauce I use.

The basic "recipe:"

Pour a can of your favorite red enchilada sauce into your blender. Then spoon out a similar (or smaller) sized can of (fat free) refried Beans into the blender also.

Put the top on and blend till mixed well. It should be liquid enough to pour into a mug. (If not, add either more enchilada sauce or chicken broth or even milk or in a pinch, Water, and blend to incorporate.)

Then nuke the mug for a minute in your microwave and if you want to, garnish with a dallop of plain yogurt or sour cream.

(Later on when you can eat more foods you could garnish with sliced green onions, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, a few pieces of chopped jalapeño, one tortilla chip finely crumbled into bits, you get the idea - whatever Mexican food garnish you choose.)

I know right now it feels like you're stuck in this mushy limbo forEVER but I promise you it will pass and you'll be enjoying real food again, but feeling satisfied with less.[/quote']

This sounds yummy!!!

Agreed, although I wonder if this stuff would be alright? 100 cal per serving, 1.5g of fat, 12g of sugar and 4g of Protein.

http://www.healthych...y-frozen-yogurt

I like this stuff a lot and eat one every couple weeks. Unlike some frozen yogurts I've tried, it actually has a soft mouth feel. I don't like the blueberry and cannot seem to find the raspberry or vanilla bean in my area.

Miso soup is good. Walmart sells it in packets and you just add hot Water. I also make my own soup. I use tomatoe soup, salad shrimp, crab meat, parsley, oregano, pepper, and parlsley. My favorite also was the Walmart brand chicken broth and the Campbell broccoli soup in the box.

We all went through this. It seems never ending, but instead of focusing on what your limited too look at what your gaining in a matter of words these days of Soup and yogurt broth are helping the new you a few days of discomfort in the scheme of things get plain yogurt and flavor it with a crystal light packet. Switch your broths around vegetable chicken and beef take the labels off your Soup cans so you have no idea what meal you get this time. It will be ok you can do this. Those before have and so can you

Hi Louisiana Lady :-)

I may be misinterpreting what you said but I think you sound scared to try eating soft foods for fear you will gain back the weight you've lost so far. You can decide what you're ready for or not but may I offer some perspective, as someone who was banded in 2003?

If your experience turns out like mine, you now have an opportunity to begin a *new* relationship with food. My band has totally taken away my ability to abuse food the way I once did. I can no longer binge or eat large portions. I now feel "Thanksgiving" full after a very modest amount of food. I used to see food as my friend but also as my enemy. I couldn't trust myself with it. It controlled me and my abuse of it was a humiliation in my life and made my life smaller and unhealthy.

But after living life with the band, food is neither my friend or enemy; it's delicious and nutritious fuel. But it's not more than that to me.

When you are ready (and you get to decide when that is) I hope you enjoy discovering the simple pleasures of the stage your doctor said to start next- eating soft foods. My hope for you is to be able to see that small amounts of healthy foods won't make you gain weight. You're going to be able to lose weight on soft foods and later solid foods and I hope you're delighted with all the delicious and wonderful and weight-loss inducing options you will have now that you're banded.

:::smile:::

:::hands you a bouquet of roses and hugs you:::

Welcome to a new chapter in your life! :-)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
