Thanks everyone!

Sorry marketing dude, there was no major milestone. I've lost 113lbs with the band. I don't eat breads, I choose good foods, I'm not over zealous. It wasn't user error. After years of the band...it just didn't jive with my body anymore. I'm not exactly sure how long it had been slipped, all I know is it because obstructed recently. You can have a minor slip and still eat normally, but until it slips enough to obstruct, you may never notice any difference, like myself. When I first signed up for the lapband I rarely heard of slips....now I hear about more and more slips and removals. My stomach was in very bad shape after the removal, I had many adhesions and the doctor said my stomach looked "chronically inflammed". The original surgery was to try to save the band...but it was too far gone, and too dangerous to keep in. The lapband helped me lose the excess, but when it started to damage my organs...it was time to say bye bye.

Thanks for an elaborate response as you seem very at peace with your decision. Congrats ! I did have a quick question for you below:

You mentioned in a previous post that the band slipped to the bottom of your stomach: My question is...how could you be ""obstructed" if the band slipped to the bottom of your stomach?

Sorry for the detailed question....I just want to know everything I can about this surgery "and potentially" what could happen down the road. My brother had the surgery and went from 429lbs to 150lbs....so I'm at peace to know his anatomy responded well to the band.

Blessings Nightart6 and Congrats Again !!!

Wow. Thank u for sharing your story. I'm living with the band just over a month. I love reading all the journeys. God bless you and your new child to be. I hope your body heals well and you have a age pregnancy. :)

well, the doctors didn't tell me much, as i was rushed into surgery following the barium swallow....but this is how it went..

the radiologist gave me a cup full of barium and had me take 4 sips at a time for about 3 minutes straight, at the end of this my throat was FULL of barium and the xrays clearly showed a huge white pouch (my stomach) sitting on top of my lapband. there was maybe a pea sized amount of the barium that passed through to the top of my intestines....but nothing could pass...i had to run straight to the bathroom and throw up the barium. my stomach was so irritated and inflammed, that it had swollen shut...didn't really matter 'where' the band was, obstruction can happen no matter where the band sits...just has to do with how swollen your stomach is, or how restricted your band is. does that make any sense? and in no way am i trying to scare you, every one is different, and my body just became more sensitive to the band this last year. :) just follow the rules and do the best you can do! that's what i did, and i just had to deal with the issues as they came! now i just have to trust myself...work out and not slip back into old ways, but after four years of successful eating i think i have myself trained pretty well :)

thanks clarks! good luck to you both, success with the lap band is super super super achievable!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
