Hi Julie. Welcome aboard.

I was banded wends the 15th ofAug. So a couple days out and I'm doing pretty well. My doc always put the port on the right side (95%) I asked that question rminutes before my surg for done reason. Lol and that's where my 'pain' comes from. It just a kind of soreness really. Some gas too, which I started gas x melt away strips and feel pretty good with. I'm not even interested in food at this point and getting a nice amt of Protein Drinks, Water, little decaff, Jello, & broth. :) good luck on ur journey and keep us posted!

Hi Tori, my name is Lucie, I was banded by Dr. Reilly on 8/01/12... he's awesome! Your gonna do great!! I had mine done at West Houston Medical. They were great! The nurses are all really nice and the surgery went well. I took about 9 days off of work. Now I am just excited about getting my first fill on Sept. 4th. I want to feel that restriction again! The swelling from surgery is gone and now the hunger is more intense. But I'm holding on... just being really strict about my intake of food. Good Luck!

Thank you Lucie. I got to meet Dr. Reilly when he did my EGD and he seemed very nice. The whole staff seemed very nice. I am just worried that I do not have enough recovery time. As a teacher I went ahead and took the first Thursday and Friday of school off. Luckily, I have Labor Day off the Monday, but I have to back to work on Tuesday. Did you feel any pain or weakness?

I had to do a psych test that was like 400 questions.. they asked me the same 40 questions 10 different ways... "Do you ever do drugs", "Do you turn to drugs when your unhappy?" Do you take recreational drugs?" GEESH.... NO NO and um... NO.. heheh (just kidding)!!!

Yeah, there were 30 questions about risks, rules for eating, etc. I only missed two, so I made an "A", lol. I missed the percentage of people that don't lose their desired weight. I put 30-40 and the answer was 40-60. I also missed the 4 rules for eating after surgery. I put eat and drink separately, chew few to mushy consistency, Protein first, and eat until you're satisfied, not full. The correct answers were: no liquid calories, eat Protein first, 3 meals daily with no grazing, and 48-64 ounces of calorie free Fluid a day.

I was surprised I got the mortality rate of WLS correct (0.3%). I had just read that percentage somewhere on this site the night before the test and guessed, to be honest.

The test my Dr. gave me was for all procedures, so he said that some of the numbers were different for lap-band surgery.

I still don't like pop-quizzes!

Good luck! It is not a bad recovery at all. Take it easy and have your liquids and mushies ready. Have a variety of options-salty, sweet, creamy, liquid...it helps get the calories in. Believe it or not that is the hardest part the first few days!

I feel pretty good I was very sore but I just put a heating pad over my stomach and I feel much better.

That's how I found relief as well, a heating pad. At what school do you teach? My husband is at Garcia Middle. My nephews go to Scanlan Oaks El. I teach in Angleton.

The psych evaluation was the hardest part for me. I was so nervous. I've never been to a psychologist before I didn't know what would be the right answer. I also had to answer a million questions and I agree with others they are basically the same question just worded differently. I made sure I read them carefully to avoid mistakes.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
