How Do You Mentally Make Yourself Start Fresh?

Recommended Posts

Banded in sept 2011. Did wonderfully sept the dec. In dec weightloss started to slow. I knew it would slow bc i wasnt as big but the "cheating" didnt help. Lil of this. Lil if that. I stopped exercising in late winter. While my portions remained small my food choices were not the

Best. My weightloss slowed even more. In june i went on vacation and said to heck with it all. I ate what i wanted. I gained 9 poundd in 7 days. Then when i returned home my eating vacation continued. When i went to the dr i had gained 15 pounds in 6 wks. I had never had a gain overall for the month and i go see him every 4-6 wks since surgery. The nutrionist gave me a one hr refresher course. My problem is all mental. I cant refocus. I have lost my motivation. I dont get it. I am in this same dieting type funk that i was prior to banding...you know, i will start my diet on monday...i will start in jan. That sort of stuff. I have been in a downward slope since early spring and have hit the bottom. I break band rules all the time...i did confess this to the dr. Which is why he had me meet with the nut. But i know the rules...sometimes i choose to break them. Then i am faced with the fact that ppl see me, know i have a band and know im not loosing anymore. Thats embarassig. I cant get out of this mental funk.

Boy oh boy do I know how you feel!! My best answer is an expression I learned in OA, "if you want to win hang out with winners".

I am trying to make one meeting a week. I am also trying to have one or two days worth of meal plans ready at all times.

Good luck with this. I've lost 60 and regained 40. I'm struggling now but thank God I am moving forward.

Best wishes, I agree with myturn, you probably do need motivational meetings. I have not been, but have lots of support locally(daughter, son both had surgery). I know that when I was doing WW, if I went to weekly meetings I did better than the time I did only the weigh in. Also, I come on here everyday for the motivation it give me. Others, have recommended the "5 day pouch test". Good luck, Karen

Support will help you a lot.

For me, I had to stop thinking of it as dieting. If I look at this a temporary situation until I'm done losing weight, I will fail miserably and I know this. Also, if I look at this as a diet, I know I will go right back to being huge and miserable eventually too.

Diets are temporary, thus their results are also temporary. I am not on a diet, I have changed my eating habits for a lifetime. It's the only way to get off the yo-yo dieting roller coaster once and for all.

I hit that same place mentally about two months ago. I knew that I didn't need a fill; at meals, I was able to eat an appropriate amount and be satisfied. I was just eating because, mentally, I wanted/needed to eat.

I scheduled an appointment with a counselor and talking with her helped somewhat. She also suggested that I talk with my PCP or surgeon about trying an antidepressant to help with anxiety issues.

This morning, I finally hit a new low on the scale, after being stalled for about three months by self sabotage.

You must go back to exercising more. Its one way to burn any carlories/fat that are sticking to you. Write in a daily journal what you are eating. After a couple days, look to see what you are writing in journal. Do the simple math and determine what could or should be eliminated that is high in calories. YOU have to do it, nobody else. I think you already know what a dietian will say to you. YOU have to admit to yourself what you are doing wrong? It will be a simple "tweak" for you and diet. If you do eat more, exercise a bit more. Best wishes and get back on track. You've worked hard and had some discomfort getting this far. Don't lose what you started.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
