Has Anyone With Pcos Gotten Pregnant After Lapband?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone with PCOS gotten pregnant after losing weight? I have PCOS and one of the reasons I'm getting banded is because down the road I'd like to have children and I know PCOS may lead to infertility.

There is a thread in here somewhere. But YES you can. Doesnt mean everyone will but it does happen. I was diagnosed with it years ago and tried for 17 years to get pregnant. You can tell by my signature I am 35 healthy weeks into my first pregnancy. Without the band I dont think I would EVER have gotten pregnant! It is very very possible.

There is a saying in the fertility business..."lose weight and ovulate." Any weight loss promotes ovulation so in theory having a lapband should increase the chances of pregnancy for a patient with PCOS. Good luck. :)

Mjv, your story is very inspiring. My husband and i have been together for 17 years and ttc for just as long. No luck yet. I am really hoping the lapband makes a difference. I am currently down 71lbs, but am only 9 months out of surgery, so they want me to wait a little longer. How much weight did youi lose before you started trying? I turn 33 this year and had started to lose hope that it would ever happen. Congratulations and best wishes to you and your family!

I stayed on birth control until I lost 60 lbs and got pregnant about 2 weeks later!! I wanted to lose more before trying but the pill was making me uncomfortable so I quit not expecting to get pregnant at all. It can happen!!!

Doctors think my rapid weightless helped me fall!

Girls never ever give up hope to have a beautiful baby it WILL happen but relax enjoy love making stop thinking it as baby making, most of all stop putting pressure on yourself!

Me, Me, Me! I was banded in July 2009 and lost 65 pounds. I have kept off (depending on the time of the month) between 50-55 of those pounds for three years. (Lost all of these pounds in about 8 months.) After a miscarraige 8 years ago and unsuccessful fertility treatments 6 years ago, hubs and I were about to adopt when BAM! I got a BFP!!! We have stopped even thinking about ttc, and then it happened. Three years out from surgery, but I will be 12 weeks in two days. So far, so good! Best of luck to you. It can happen!

Thsi really gives me hope. I have PCOS and have been ttc since 1999 off and on. We did the whole infertility treatment with no success for about five years and $60,000 bucks. So, we took a treatment break. We are always trying. LOL My doctor (OB) just kept saying lose weight, lose weight. Well, easy said. Especially coming from someone the size of a toothpick. Anyway, I am at the point of accepting that if it happens it happens. Having my lapband is mainly for me to be healthy but, if it happens to help with getting pregnant....that would be AWESOME!!

Just hearing your guys stories has brought a little hope to me.

thanks I need it

It hasn't helped with mine - yet! I still have the hair on my chin that I have to pluck a few times a week. Ugh. It has helped with anxiety, but that's pretty much it. I never really had the acne or dark spots. My periods are A LOT less painful and flow isn't so heavy, so it is making a difference, I guess. I also don't break out when I shave above my knees anymore. I think it was a hormone thing.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17, and I was told by several doctors I'd never get pregnant, and that I was too heavy, etc etc. I got pregnant by surprise ONE MONTH after being banded, but that pregnancy ended in miscarriage. However, my experience prompted me to really take charge of my fertility. I worked with my doctor. I did take some natural supplements (Vitex and DIM) to help balance out my progesterone levels, and I took progesterone supplements after I got pregnant again in January! (yay!)

I'm almost 35 weeks pregnant with my baby daughter Maisie and I've had almost no problems. I did have a kidney stone, but it's not related to my weight or the PCOS, sometimes it just happens when you get pregnant.

So YES you can!!! Best of luck ladies!!

Edit* I also might mention that I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis which affected my fertility.

It can definitely happen! Hubby and I tried for over ten years. Just when I had lost all hope (due to a miscarriage) we got pregnant with twins. It was a scary pregnancy because we were worried we'd lose one or both babies. I'm happy to report that our boys were born health at 8 months. This week the boys will be 10 months old. I had a unfill at 4 months of pregnancy due to morning sickness. Don't lose hope and just focus on yourself and your weight loss. I was banded in 9/30/2009 and our boys were born 10/23/2011. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions/concerns.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
